Does anyone like this thing?

I personally can't stand it. I think at the time it was a great idea execute poorly. It was too damn big and larger than the Mauler and the Mobat.

I think the DTC Hummers are far superior in every possible way.

What do you think?

When I first got into Ebay Joe buying in late '98, this was one of my first purchases. I had only seen pics and it looked awesome. The box art make it look like it was the perfect size for use with lots of figures. It had tons of great extras. I anxiously awaited it's arrival after winning a boxed version.

Then, I opened it. What a disappointment. While I don't mind the size (I like vehicles that have room for lots of figures, etc...even at the cost of realism.) the fact that you couldn't get figures into it without damaging them pretty much did it in. Plus, it was really brittle and I felt like the slightest pressure would tear the thing apart.

As far as the design, I think it has some merit. But, it failed so completely that I couldn't even bother to buy the '02 repaint on clearance for under $5.

I love this vehicle. I mean its in my top 10 easily. I got the original during desert storm. It was the first hint of realism in GI Joe after a long drought. I was able to play with a toy that was being shown on tv practically every day. Unlike the VAMP this thing held 7 guys easily. You could take the main gun off and use it on the tripod. The antennea that bent forward and the removeable gas can which harkoned back to the VAMP along with the missle racks made this a fun vehicle. It went on a great many, many missions.

Was it perfect? No. I think the newer Humvees by Hasbro have outshined it and of course those side gun mounts break just by looking at them. Having replaced all the missing and broken pieces from my childhood though it is still a great vehicle. I've made it a command vehicle for the Joe brass to make and communicate battlefield plans from.

I'm the same in that I feel it wasn't bad, just not well thought out. It's too big and doesn't fit within the rest of the G.I.Joe stuff. It's like putting a BBI plane next to the Skystriker.

My favorite as a child bar none. Play value beats everything when you are a kid.

High play value... Loved it! I use it for the Anti-Venom task Force! Just sci fi enough for me.

I like it, especially without the side weapons.

If you think about it, the Hammer fits in between the VAMP and the AWE.

The AWE is a tank hunter with no anti personnel weapon (unless you use that big ass cannon on personnel, which I guess is possible but slow to reload). The VAMP has a smaller MG that seemed good for fighting personnel and light vehicles, but it doesn't really pack the punch needed for taking on HISS tanks, particularly not the HISS II.

The Hammer has both rockets for fighting armor while having the MG and side mount weapons for anti personnel and light vehicles, but I would think it would be slower than the VAMP and AWE because of the added weight.

The Hammer is not something I would consider an urban warfare vehicle as its wide body and most likely wide turning radius would make driving difficult in tight streets and alleys, but in open areas, the Hammer would probably dominate.

Since Hasbro released the Jungle Strike Humvee in '04, (plus the Desert Humvee, the Night Ops Humvee and the several other Humvees we've seen for other companies) my Hammer has sat in storage. I still like it, but it seems I'm more realism-minded these days. If I had the skills or the time, I could see customizing the Hammer into a Mad Max/ Road Warrior styled vehicle. It would probably suit the 'Noks, pretty well, too. Seems it's so big, a lot could be done with it as far as mounting cattle guards, spikes, or other fantasy-type weapons.

I like the additions to the Hammer like the missile launchers & the gun platforms... But the Hammer itself is just too big & brittle.

Now if only someone would customize those additions to a standard Joe or PTE Hummer... :shifty:

Loved it as a kid! Is awesome. Definitely too big, but everybody has a comfortable place to sit. Those side guns had to go, though!

It's okay at best but it ranks down the list IMO. I have the 2002 repaint myself. It follows the same pattern of many other Joe vehicles in that it is based off of a real vehicle. But somehow this one just doesn't work too much for me.

I got it back in 1991 while visiting relatives in Houston, and I always loved how playable it was. It was obviously designed with playability in mind rather than realism, hence it being easy to get figures inside and mounted everywhere.
