Did IDW ever finish that Transformers/GI JOE story they made the first comic for ? If not I wish they'd finish that one off.

I got ot thinking the other day about what IDW will do with the comic. To keep DDP's run or to start over from the end of the Marvel run? Then I got to thinking, why should they be hampered with the Marvel run. It was a great comic but nothign says they have to start there. What if GI Joe #1 IDW was GI Joe #1. You have a wealth of both Marvel and DDP to delve into but you start with a brand new clean slate.

New readers jumping, which I assume will be many, won't have to worry about what happened when under which publisher. It might reference a previous story or character but the stories themselves would be self contained. You'd have thsi dual level where fans who GI Joe will know the background for stuff, while new fans can latch on anywhere.

Actually, pluv, that's what I hope they do. I'd be all for a reboot.

Sure, I wouldn't mind if it kept the Marvel continuity, but I can live without that if it's well-written and keeps the themes and concepts of GI Joe alive.

But since we're getting a reboot of sorts with the movie and comics based on the movie, I'd expect the "regular" IDW series will keep at least some form of continuity... with something...

I think that you are talking about Dreamwave Production's second Joe/TF crossover. Only the first issue came out before Dreamwave went belly-up. It's kind of a shame, because it was supposed to have connections to the awesome WWII Dreamwave Joe/TF crossover.

Yep thats the one I'm talking about. And it had the classic look to it as well. I do hope they decide to finish it when they get the Joe comics officially.

Agreed. On a related note, I read once that Devil's Due had the rights to print the remaining Dreamwave miniseries if they chose.

I've always speculated that they didn't because the artist probably hadn't been paided by Dreamwave. If they printed it, they might be held liable for payment. I don't know that for certain, that's just an educated guess.

Actually, if the Transformers comics are anything to gauge on, those comics are still part of litigation against Dreamwave, and likely are *not* available for anyone to "reprint", nor were the stories ever finished, so there really isn't a product for DDP, nor IDW now, to offer.

The artists stopped getting paid, so they stopped doing the work.

As far as crossovers, based on the interview at IGN, Chris Ryall seems to want to hold off on anything like that until GIJoe has been established at their company... so if we do ever see a Crossover, it'll be IDW's Transformers and IDW's GIJoe.

Sad, but I guess expected since they have transformers. The only good TF comics are the one shots and the mini's that Don Figuero did, the regular saeries sucked and still does. wasted $$. It took into the last issue of the second series escalation to have a decent issue but that's all and decent isn't good enough...
Well I can always hope for a good comic in the joes at least we'll still have a Joe comic and not have to wait too long for it and hopefully they'll have the rights to the DD characters since they did have qite a few good ones.
Oh well ...Definately give it a try and hope for the best..

I also want a reboot, but it has to be handled carefully. One of my favourite aspects of the Marvel run is how we got to know the characters. Rarely was a character shown at his home town or talked about his family. When someone did, like when Clutch mentioned his hatred for Nazis because of his grandmother's concentration camp tattoos, it was the character telling us about it. We could have been another soldier in the field hearing about this story, not a comic book reader following a story through the fourth wall.

If they reboot, I want IDW GI Joe #1 to read like Marvel GI Joe #1. Don't start with teenage Duke in high school home economics class day dreaming about some day doing better things with his life. Start right before the team's first mission and introduce us to our main characters gradually. And please minimize how these characters know one another. GI Joe vs Cobra is best when it is about cause versus cause, not personal vendettas that happen to put lifelong enemies on opposite sides of a war.

There's something else I'd love to see from IDW. Sidewinder, Matthew, and Chad_Ghost mention in GI Joe Review episode 15 how there are two separate continuities people remember about GI Joe: Marvel comics; Sunbow cartoon. They also talk about IDW's Star Trek Season Four comic. It got me thinking, what about GI Joe Season 3? Buzz Dixon has talked about his Season 3 plans, making Tomax and Xamot the main villains in charge of a group known as the Coil. I would love to see the post-movie season as a comic, starring the 1987 characters and written in the same vein as the animated series. I would flip at the opportunity to return to that universe. They could try Sigma 6 Season Three as well, using the plotlines hinted at in the Dark Ninja Master and Iron Grenadier file cards about Cobra Commander raising an evil ninja spirit that longtime rivals Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow must team together to stop, and Firefly building his own army of elite Cobra soldiers, continuing to fight internally between his loyalty to Cobra and his friendship with Lt. Stone.
