I've got a rather involved vehicle/figure custom set that I've been working on for about two months now. I was working on the thing again today, and realized that I'm just plain bored with them. They're coming out pretty much exactly how I wanted, but I just don't have much interest in them anymore. Yet, at the same time, I've already put so much work into them (...one task in particular was exceptionally difficult) that it seems like a waste to stop now (I'm about 80% done). Anyone else ever burn out on a custom midway through?

yup and when that happens and i have totally decided i don't care about it, it becomes fodder. alot of my vehicle customs that i have completed are an incarnation of 2 or 3 failed/bored unfinished customs i tore peices from.

I've got the entire Plague sitting in a box just a few details away from being finished and I can't seem to find the desire to finish them. I started them about the time their first appearance in the comic which was what 7-8 months ago? Yeah... :-(

I'm not sure if it's boredom or lack of motivation, but I rarely finish a custom....

I have never got bored while making a custom. Frustrated if it is not turning out like I wanted, yes. I have abandoned customs because I have not been able to get them up to the standard I would like, because I haven't been able to get the sculpting just right or because I haven't been able to get the parts choice right.

Occassionally, customs have gone on hiatus until I can get the enthusiasm back to complete them.

Yeah. Stopped mid-figure, and mid-project with this one:

The experience of painting a figure white/yellow made me stop making customs for 4 months. Maybe I'll go back and finish at least that figure some time.

I can't really say I've ever gotten bored with a custom because I'm obsessive enough that I'm only going to do a custom that I'm really excited about. On the other hand, I do get easily distracted and burned out. I tend to work intensely at times and then I just need a break. :shifty: I'm still on break after my Sigma Indy...LOL. I get distracted because my inspiration shifts here and there or something isn't quite working, so I move on to something else until the muse pulls me back. It's not like I've been doing this very long, but I never leave a custom unfinished...eventually.

Yes.

Right now I have three Galaxy Rangers figures and a Quarrel figure that are in custom limbo.

Occasionally, I'll assemble a figure and do the sculpting, but then get stuck trying to think up a paint scheme.

Yes. It happens. I've gone full steam ahead on customs that interested me at one time only to get bored with it somewhere along the way. The most coomon is when I read a book, see a movie, or play a game and get all into a character. As soon as I'm done with whatever inspired me I kind of lose the push to have that figure.

Sometimes the parts get re-alloted to something else. Sometimes, if I almost finish it or actually finish it on fumes, so to speak, I'll include it as a gift for Secret Santa in hopes someone can take it and do something better with it.

I've got a few figures that are in the late WIP stages, but I lost interest, and know they'll never get finished. A couple of them I've grown attached to as they are.

Governor Swann from Pirates of the Carribbean.. he's been half finished for....6 months. I even paid bucks for a head off GTG customs just to get the hair.
..just... got... bored...
I've kind of moved on from Pirates. And just replaced them on one of my display shelves with my Indiana Jones figs... chances of me finishing that customs are slim.

That's me right there. I'll get an idea for a custom or customs, and just go balls to the wall on them, then *BOOM*, I'm bored, distracted, or something and don't finish them. Occasionally, I'll come across one I'd forgotten about, and get a renewed interest in it. That's how my 25th Tollbooth is (but I'm nearly done with him now, and hope to post pics soon), and I actually have a few others I'm working on that I'll finish, even though I had lost interest for a bit.
A big part of my problem is I'll be working on one, then get an idea for another, and start on it so I don't forget about it. I think the other part of my problem is once I'm nearly done, I notice imperfections and such. While it's 'in progress', that's okay. Once finished, then they seem more annoying to try to fix, if that makes sense.

I don't know that I'd say bored...but I'm of the oppinion that i have Custom ADD...maybe even ADHD based on the 70 or so Wips I've got around.

I think a large part of it is because my PC is so old, it's difficult to import and edit the photos at home...so I don't take them all that often.

I also suffer from the fear of being Chad-Matted...simply because I work so slowly on customs I don't like to post or share WIPS because sombody else will finish the idea, better than I can and that really steals the wind from my sails...Odds are that's why I'll never finish Dutch's and his predator Team.

Yea I got a whole team of customs that are put together but not painted and I can't seem to focus on them long enough to figure out a paint scheme. I even have a dio story written for them.
