OK so I read the thread about using a rubber mallet, but has anyone found an easier way or another way that is as effective? Without total destruction.

I use a razor blade. Start under the arm and work your way up. Do this on both sides. Then I slide a small flat head screwdriver (or any metal thing dull and flat) then pry it open. I've done this for 3 torsos without hurting any of them.

Same here, except for about 50 torsos. Never had a problem with any of them, aside from having to do it in the first place.

I have used the rubber mallet on a few torsos and one i broke becouse i hit it to hard, but on the others i hit them 3 times and pry apart with a small flat head screwdriver like mentioned before, no problems for me and the torso pegs are still intact.

Broke how, exactly? Neck busted off or internal pegs broken? The former's a problem, the latter not so much.

The torso cracked pretty good by the arm pit and since i only paid 2.00 for it, i scrapped him, thus telling you all, whatch how hard you hit the figure.

Just attempted my first two torso swaps. I used Matt's method. The first one took a while, but the 2nd was under 5 minutes. What I did to get them separated was to use an Exacto knife on the seams (as Matt suggested), then I took a small precision flat-head and positioned it under the center of the back. A little pressure, and it opened. Sacrificed a couple pegs, but all is well when Super-glue comes to town.

I agree Matt's meathod was very easy, I also boiled mine for about 20 seconds first then made the cut. It was really cool too I out on a sergical mask and gloves and ........sorry that was dream flash back to College. :whistling:

Never mind, but becareful not to boil to long I found that the forarm sockets swelled so much the forarms are not tight any more.

I'd think boiling the entire fig just to crack the chest apart is pointless. Boiling doesn't affect the hard plastic of the torso, just the soft plastic of the arms and calves.

And if you're breaking the peg coming up out of the abdomen into the chest, just use the x-acto at the armpits and twist once you're about 3mm into the seam. I've not broken a single solitary fig using the x-acto method.
