Hey, guys, need some help on this one.

I'm working on a Munitia custom, naturally using the NS Baroness for the much of the base.

The bad part is that the one I'm using is the $2 version from Family Dollar/Dollar General. The sculpted Cobra emblem on the chest is great, but it's layered in a thick, detail-smothering gloppy orange-red paint. Putting several coats of spray paint on it will only cause more detail to be lost.

Does anyone know a good way to remove factory paint? I've tried lots of stuff before (paint thinner, soaking in bleach, etc.) but nothing really works. I'd be reluctant to try dremmeling it off, especially since it's the softer NS figure plastic.

Any ideas?

This exact topic came up awhile back, iirc the guys were using sculpey to remove the factory paint. They would smash it on the area, let it sit for a day or two and the paint comes right off with the clay (I did this by accident with some fodder and it works quite well) I hope that helps!

91% isopropyl alcohol (same shelf as the 70% at the grocery and drugstores) works too. Which reminds me, I need more of that...

Thanks for the tips, guys. Now I've got a couple of things to try.

Mineral spirits are helpful too, as is VERY watered down nail polish remover. Test the nail polish remover on a crap figure first, cause if it's too potent it'll actually melt the plastic and you may very well pass out from the fumes.

I'll have to try some of those, for sure. I tried removing the paint from the head of the AOME Eowyn, by soaking it overnight in paint thinner, and it didn't come off at all. Whatever paint they are using, I WANT SOME OF THAT!

I tried to use nail polish remover a couple times, started with just a little bit.. and nothing. Then.. I tried a BUNCH, nothing. So last time I just soaked the part, STILL nothing. Opps, non acetone remover

Acetone, works but use a little at a time and definately don't soak it, It will melt your figure.

I don't know if it will work with joes because I never tried it but a friend of mine that paints miniatures bought some painted ones on ebay an he wanted to remove the original paint of 20 or more figures. He placed them on car oil from one day to the other and it worked. Not sure if it will work with joes. If someone gives it a try let me know please
