I'm thinking either heat or a safe cleaner that would bubble off the paint layers. Maybe some hydrogen peroxide? |

i use plastic lids and when acrylic builds up it peels of pretty easy. if not i just throw that lid away. large yogurt,cottage cheese, or sour cream lids. big coffee can lids too. peanut butter lids. pringles lids. butter lids. ice cream bucket lids. all free  bindy you nasty. |

yeah... this is more of a question because i used my grandma's marble palatte (that she used for oils) after our move ... and now i'm afraid i've wrecked it... |

I'm wondering if the oils of the oil paint my have chemically etched or changed the surface of the porous marble. Maybe soak in degreaser or google fu methods to clean marble. EDIT: My Mom suggested turpentine or linseed oil, as they do remove paints, but I am not sure of effect of marble. Maybe goo gone, or the orange stuff, or the purple stuff. |

if you are using acrylics jm70, soap and water. ETA my wife was a pro faux finisher and i just asked her about acrylic on marble. she said lay a rag with worm water on it for a few hrs and it should come right off. |

Simple Green dissolves acrylic paint. I don't know who told me but once I found out I tested it, and sure enough when I soaked an old custom in Simple Green all of the paint dissolved and sloughed off after about a day. It wont damage the figure at all, it's very mild and I don't know what it is in it that works so I can't recommend an alternative (I should probably buy a good bit to stock up myself in case they change the formula or stop making it). So for anyone searching for this in the future I'll say again that Simple Green can remove dried acrylic paint without damaging the underlying item if you soak the part or find some way to leave it on long enough (leave a rag soaked in it on the surface). Simple green is cheap and available at Walmart (I have not tried Mean Green - only Simple Green, so be careful if they only have one or the other). I know this sounds like an ad but I'm only writing this much so that when it gets indexed it will be pulled up by search results better by people looking for the same solution on how remove dried acrylic paint. |

I would start out with something tiny and disposable first at full strength instead of risking something more valuable. If I don't want to risk losing something I would certainly test the diluted mixture too before using. |

I just use the plastic bubbles from packaging and when it gets overloaded, I trash it. |
