I believe this would be a good place to ask this question. I’m looking for a type – not so much a brand, but a type – of water-based/acrylic paint that matches the finish of the paint (or even the plastic) used for action figures. Especially DC Universe Classics, some of which in my collection could use some touching up.

“Flat” doesn’t match. Neither does “Gloss”, and my attempts to blend the two have tended not to be successful. Two other types I’ve seen include “Matte” and “Satin”. I’m not sure either of these would be a good match, either.

The finish of the paint on the average action figure of this type is not entirely flat, but neither is it glossy. I could really use some good recommendations here. Thanks.

I've had good luck lately with using multi surface satin acrylic paints for touching up my vintage joes. Not too flat and not too glossy.

I use a satin or matte clear coat and it seamed to take a lot of the shine away

Out of the bottle Citadel/Games Workshop is probably the closest to universal plastic shine. Their older black capped bottles were almost dead on, but they changed the formula to accoutn for minatures use of more shadow and dry brushing. Still, without any kind of clear coat it is still the closest in my opinion.
