I saw this on Friday and meant to post about it, but I didn't get a chance to.

This is a SERIOUSLY impressive diorama.

Stocos (I don't think he posts here, right?) apparently commissioned this--anyone know from who?
(I can always ask him, but I thought it would be good for discussion)

My next big dio project was going to be something similar--more mid-century looking and not as complete. I was thinking two levels but only going like 5 or 6 inches in for each room so just a little bit more than facade and not quite in-scale rooms.

With the exception of a few detail items (shower curtain and curtain rod, hinges, metal grating, and vending machine print out etc) everything looks like it is foam board, including furntiture. So lots and lots of measuring and lots and lots of cutting. Then lots and lots of gluing. Finally some painting and airbrushing. Looks like it is the size of a whole sheet of foam board so bulky to carry. Would take up a good chunk of a table to keep it set up. But not too, too heavy because foam board. A professional prop maker/architect could probably make it over a weekend starting Friday. A customizer doing it on the side, maybe a month or vacation week. I would take a year. :-D

Reminds me of the good old days. A set that big can take a week or better, depending on the pre-measuring of all the details to be cut. The only thing I would do differently is seal the center core foam exposed edges with a thin strip of paper in the color of the surface paper. That way you can suspend disbelief just a little bit more since the exposed foam center always shows up on camera making a set look a set.
