Games Workshop Mithril Silver is the only universally agreed upon paint I have seen for customizing so far.

We should have a page somewhere that everyone can go to and see the various paint-matches whenever customizations pop-up.

If the mad-skills customizers want to put forth their finds thusfar for some of the basics, I will compile and post somewhere, possibly Joe Customs Wiki or something.

Anyone interested in contributing their paint matches. I am thinking the basics, like:

Crimson Guardsman red
Cobra Soldier Blue

I have seen some mixes, and will include them, but closest out of bottle I think is handiest for beginners.

Opinions?

There's a page already in the JCWiki that can be added to; right now it lists only Apple Barrel/Delta Ceramcote combinations:

http://wiki.joecustoms.com/wiki/Paint_Mix_Guide

Adding other brands/combinations would definitely be a good idea, given the wide variety of paints different customizers use. :-)

And Cybertronian regularly posts updates to combinations he's found on the board (gotta add his stuff to the Wiki at some point, I think.)

I have no idea how these really compare to the original line...but I think that Badger Model Flex MO PAC BLUE is awful close the Cobra blue. And I used Polly Scale Model Railroad Colors B & M Blue for Shipwreck's shirt...not sure if it's a ringer, but it's pretty darn close.

Kind of got me there... I usually buy mine straight from the store. I do know if you do a search for "Apple Barrel" you should hit a few dozen sites at least that carry the colors (I did a search a while back when they started reorganizing the line) but not sure of any one source that carries them all; when I last checked it tended to vary quite a bit.

And the list needs updating, since certain colors no longer seem to be available, notably Cinnamon Apple, and others have had their names changed.

I've never done a CG and I don't think I've actually even seen one in person, but from looking at pictures it seems maybe Polly Scale Model Railroad Colors in Caboose Red would work. That's what I use for all my Cobra stuff that needs red.
