Okay...

What is the most efficent and cheapest way to get the molds? Can the resin be purchased locally(I live in San Francisco)

Where do I go from here? Besides purchasing the resin.

Any advice?

There is no fast and cheap way to cast heads. To get started from scratch your looking at a minimum of $70 to get started if you want to use halfway decent materials. Besides the resin you are going to need silicone to make the molds out of, silcone hardener to cure the silcone, mold realease if you plan on doing 2 part molds, plus some way of making a mold box. For someone like yourself I would probably recommend getting the Starter kit from Alumilite since it would have all the stuff you need to get you started, and theres probably enough silcone there to make about 8 head molds out of. Not really necessary but helpful is a jewler scale or somehting similar since both the silicone and resin need to measured out in specific quantities in order for them cure right. There other ways of measuring but that would be entirely up to you.

Here is a link to the Starter kit I was referring to:

I only make molds of heads that I know I will use again in the future or worth selling to other people that I know would want them. For instance I have been needing several V1 Snake eyes heads for quite awhile now so instead trying to buy them off of ebay I just made a mold of one I had and then made the 6 other ones I needed.

It wasn't too hard. I did some casts and they came out pretty well. Check the wiki* and there is a good walkthrough; also, I believe that alluminite has a walkthrough as well. I used the starter kit. The only issue I had was running out of the mold material.

Pay special attention to any tips concerning airbubbles (i.e. pouring on the side instead of over the mold). Also be careful cutting off extra flash or material from the mold with the xacto-knife (I had a couple stitches ;-) ).

It's actually a fun thing to try - good luck.
