This is a random and potentially stupid question, but is there a modeling compound out there that dries clear?

I wouldn't call it a modeling compund per se, but hot glue dries sort of clear...

I've seen a Translucent Clay from Sculpy...but not Transparent or clear.

Modelling? Perhaps, There are some resins out there that are pliable. I'll look around a bit. I know the pour and cast variety can be as clear as glass.
