OK, Im finally planning to try my hand at customizing some 25ths. My question is what brand/type of paint do you all use, particularly on the soft plastic? I'm assuming the vast array of Testors and Metallizer paints I use on Transformers currently won't work.

I swear by Tamiya and testor's model masters, occasionally using some Reaper as well. Basically any hobby/modeling specific paints, not cheap craft paints like you can get at Michaels and Walmart.

I'm sure it's already understood, but these refer to the Acryl paints, NOT enamel. Enamel based model paints won't work on this type of plastic at all.

My best paints are the Model Masters Acryl, but I haven't tried Tamiya yet.

I'd also add my 2 cents that says, unless the paint is already very thin (some just come that way) that you want to mix in a couple drops of water to thin it down before painting. And do many thin coats rather than one quick one. If you like instant gratification, as I do, this was a tough pill to swallow. But seeing the rewards of patient paint apps was well worth making the adjustment.

I use Games Workshops paints and inks. They work well for coverage and are easy to use for washes and dry brushing.

Thanks gang. I'll have to pick up some acryls. Any big problems with rubbing on the 25ths?

just the same ones as in older versions.

sand the joints then light coats keep from having rubs and chipping.

others oftern dye a figure first, but i am just getting to that myself...

Thanks everyone. I'm planning some lazy practice customs at first, on some otherwise useless fodder figs which IMO are only good for painting practice. I'm considering painting comic pack Scarlett in either green camo or Night Force colors, and painting one of the Breakers in desert colors. I'll post pics if I ever get to them.

Some joints take the paint really well, and some you just know it's not going to work, right away, usually based on how tight it is.

It isn't always an option, but I've really been trying to reduce this problem by using source parts that are close in color to the paint scheme I am going for. It sometimes limits the color choices I make, but adds to the playability of the figure immensely.
