Okay, so, I'm thinking of selling my recent Scorpion King custom. I have no space or use for it. The problem is, I don't want to use Ebay (REALLY don't want to use ebay) and I'm not sure how to price this. I'd love to say "Make offers" but people don't seem to like that (or I get 20 PMs of "Uh...I don't know what to offer...how much do you want?"). I always feel egotistical putting a price on my work (or even selling it period, but people expressed interest in this one). I know I'm not Jin Saotome and could never command his prices, but what IS a fair price for a custom like this? Here are the pics again, just for reference.

For my wrestling customs, I generally start them at $10.00.
Picking a price for your work is tough, only you know what you put into it.

When I recently tried selling some of my custom Joe figures on here, I was given offers as low as $2.00 - but the majority of them were $5.00. I think my work commands at least $10.00 (for the most part).

With that, I'd start it at $20.00 and see where it goes. Just remember that the Scorpion King popular days are LONG gone now, and it may not get a bid. It's happened to me before.

Well i would start off by compiling how much you spent towards making it, parts and such, but i agree with The Mike, $20.00 is a good starting point and i would like to have your custom in my collection, it's really cool and awesome looking.

When I price my stuff, I figure the cost of the parts plus $10 an hour. My general price for a single custom is $40-$50 each. I've sold about 500 or so over the past 20 years, and should something NOT sell, I keep it. Which of course I REALLY get upset :-) about.

I'd say at least $40.00 to start.

I would say that pricing depends on the amount of work that goes into a custom. The more complex, the higher the price.

I have always put mine on eBay. I take the shot at not getting much because I don't like having to price it either.

For that customs, I'd say $20 easy to start. It definitely took some time. Plus, it's giant.

All of the customs I have sold have averaged around 30 bucks and I'd say this one is better than any of those. And a lot more complex.

It's definitely one of a kind. While the recipe is worthy of being copied, I can't imagine many will do so, based upon the complex parts choices and work you put into it. So if you like this, this is most likely the best chance people will get to own it.

While I agree the Scorpion King, as a character, is not in high demand, who would not want this kind of creature to go up against their Indiana Jones, Lara Croft, etc... type customs? I think it's cool as a stand alone piece without needing any movie type hype.

So for me, it's a great piece of work, not limited in its relevance, that is one of a kind. I think you should start at the $40 John suggested, at least, and if you want to avoid ebay, then propose a "silent auction" where people know up front not to bother, if they aren't bidding at least that amount. If you are comfortable with $40 and get 10 $40 bids, then it's the first to post it. But you might be surprised and get a real nice bid as well. At least with a silent auction like that, you have parameters, and there are no hurt feelings by a bidding war otherwise.

If you were on ebay, on the other hand, then I would maybe start a tad under $40, and hope that a bidding war ensues OR put it on a even higher priced Buy It Now and see if anyone bites. My concern on ebay, unlike on here, is how you label it to get the most views. But I've seen work less impressive than this go for much more.

Good luck either way

i don't think that'd work for me... my starting price would be, like, $600... :shifty:

although, that kind of $$ would really help with the bbts.com bills...

:-D

I would think if you got anything less than $50 it would not be worth your time. It all depends on how badly you need money and how easy it will be to part with your work, though.

On an unrelated note, where did you find the scorpion?

The main body of the scorpion part of the custom is a Marvel Legend Brood queen torso and legs. The back section, tail, and claws came from a Chap Mei adventure heroes giant scorpion that I bought at Rite-Aid for $8.

Man... Oddly enough I had a dream the other night that somebody gave me this custom in Secret Santa or something... Not sure how that came to be, but it was still cool. :D

Honestly...I found this question to be the hardest one to answer in the entire customizing fandom.

I know when I do work for others...(which is rare as I rarely have time to work on stuff for myself or my son lately)...I figure out the time spent and degree of difficulty of the work. Now I know what I'm stating is basically for commission work...but if selling a custom I would still factor that in.

It's a tough question to answer.

Sorry I wasn't of help. :-(
