What head were you looking at using as the co-pilot? I have dremeled out two lift ticket helmets with success.

Haven't actually gotten that far yet - but open to choices that will fit! Excellent to hear you've done it --- twice! I'm assuming you had success using it as a working helmet on ARAH heads then?

I'd recommend using a DTC/Spy troops era head for the figure if you want to get the head fitting in that ugly ass helmet. :-D They are narrower, and you can recycle the neck ball that you are removing from the LT head to modify it to work with the body. Just beware the gap in the neck post (ARAH ball connector will be thicker than the DTC receiver) and make sure that it's below the neckline or filled in with putty.

So I went for it! THANKS for all the tips!!! It was like a "group project" because I used a little bit of everybody's advice to make it all come together - even saved the old neck post which oddly ended up being needed for the head I chose. Really grateful - almost felt a little teardrop - but that was probably just fumes from too much CA glue ;)

But you'll also see in the pics the result of a "dremel gone wild" ripping up the backside. Hopefully fill-able and paintable.

The hardest part is knowing how much depth is left: .2"? .1"? .05" keep going or stop? Still unsure even now.

Finally I'd like to lodge a complaint that no one warned me about the 40,000 tiny plastic dust particles I'd inhale - time to get a mask ;) !

Ha, yes, that's probably the dumbest thing I do on a regular basis, not wear a mask when I sand and dremel. And I hate it when the dremel jumps and adds a gouge, thankfully those look like you could sand them and paint over pretty easily. And that came out pretty well, just needs a mic, and honestly it'll look better than the original. I always forget what goofy head LT had. :) Good work!

I put myself in the hospital first time I did that. It was all goggles and facemasks for me from then on. This is messy and dirty work, ,which is why I often use the slow but reliable Xacto for the majority of this kind of work.

Yeah, should have mentioned the safety glasses and dust mask, but that should be a standard when ever working with a dremel. I have to say that you did a good job for your first time. The damage (from the dremel) is minimal and adds character to the helmet, "Were they fired upon during a mission?" If you keep practicing (and wear safety gear) you will be able to hollow out helmets on a regular basis.

Sorry about that. I feel like we let you down about the safety gear. I wear regular glasses so I never think about goggles, except for the one time plastic bounced up off my cheek and into the corner of my eye. That burned. And I've also learned to a) wear a shirt I don't care about b) dremel over an easy to clean up area and c) not breath while the dremel is running. :D

Not bad. The back needs a little evening out so it sits right and maybe a little more in the front where that Sure Fire head's hair sits higher. In line with what DotD said, maybe a piece of twisty tie for the mic would work.

Yes - I've used the dremel for other projects and should have known better about the mask! But I usually do quick jobs where it's not a big deal. Also I wear glasses, but they're smaller and have had some near misses in the past - safety goggles are needed too!

And yes - LT's head is ugly; reminds me of what a helmet for Princess Leia would look like ;)

And yes need to sand/fill/paint the worst of the hacks - but I like the "battle damage " idea too. Will also add a mic - actually in the one pic you can see what I did for LT: stripped wire with the rubber coating left on just at the end for the mouthpiece. So may do that again, or get one of Marauder's.

And pluv you nailed it about sure fire's hair and clearing room for that so it sits right - a customizer's work is never done, right? I always see one more little thing that could be tweaked...

Great job on the helmet. You will be surprised how much room is in there. Dremeling out any head to get a helmet is messy work, so like everyone else has said... Sorry for not saying something about it. I think LT's helmet makes for a nice representation of an IHADSS. I think I posted a WIP with it somewhere. Again, nice job.
