I'm looking for ideas for building more accurate feet for Terron/Gargon. This is the custom I made this year.

Image

This was what I was trying to homage.

Image

I want to do it better. I want the legs to be as similar as possible to the original. So far I've come up with static legs made entirely from putty, to buying some G.I. Joes, removing their legs and transforming them into alien feet. Not sure if those are good options. I feel I can do with more innovative ideas, so I turn now to the brilliant heads in Joecustoms.

This is what the original's feet look from other angles.

Can you guys offer up any additional ideas?

i can't think of a search word for my first thought. it is like a crinkle tube material that holds it shape. i swear i saw some for tying things down etc. it looks like this, but no flashlight.
Image

that search turned up these. maybe sculpt some over this flexible tie down material. many different types, but you should go to a local hardware or camping store and see it in person because i have no idea about size.

maybe some construction material like metal clad cable, if it will bend tight enough.

or plane old romex wire

i hope it leads to a solution for you. is the rectangle hole a light sensor? i think i read that in your thred. there are lots of little motion activated halloween critters out right now. here we have every things a dollar stores and i got 3-4 different ones the last few yrs. i took the "guts" out of a couple and set in cabinets at work. about the size of a reeses cup but very bright red led flashing lights and loud howling or cat screeching.

Doesn't help with articulation but the angle of the bend and the shape of the feet remind me of Masters of the Universe figures, specifically whiplash. Probably cost prohibitive to get like 3 sets, though

The rectangular hole is the receptor. The light actual is located in the mouth and eyes of the official toy. I don't know a lot about electronics so I'll stay away from even referencing them. I'll show you the progress as I go along. I tried the GearTies first. Found them through on online store here. They'll be here in a couple days.

I did consider using action figure legs but I wouldn't dare destroy good MOTU figures. They're pretty pricy here though. Thanks all the same for the idea.

i thought about this game last night. we have the most recent version, but it has different shoes on each legs. i had this style in the 90's ,and if you could find it used might give you easy shaped legs to add detail to.

it looks like there have been many versions back to the 50's! so there should be some floating around.

eta this is the oldest, and looks more menacing. says 1949!

Another question. Would you guys use those solid dinosaur models in your projects? I'm concerned about the type of plastic since I'll be creating a Frankenstein. I decided on using the back of this Ankylosaurus.

i would use that type of base, i am using schleigh, papo, and safari limited. even cheep hallow dollar store animals. though if something is too rubber like sometimes spray paint will make it tacky so just acrylic paint would be safe.

I only use acrylic paint so I should be in the clear. I don't want to use that type of rubbery plastic. I prefer the type Hasbro or Mattel uses. I had a look at the Jurassic World Ankylosaurus but it's pricey on the aftermarket.

Don't tell my girlfriend that I paid $40.00 for this just for a custom... The cool part about it is that the electornics and action gimmick is intact. Now the big question. Should I replace the head or transfer details from the triceratops to the ankylosaurus? Another question, should I consider actually applying the legs from the triceratops to the centre of the ankylosaur body or stick to the original plan?

I haven't found a good set of bendable material for the legs yet... Still looking. I managed to buy a set from online of those GearTies you suggested but they were too short and thin. around 7 cm in length and 0.4 mm width. I can speak to the sellers about a longer thicker type. Let me know what you think.

he is already looking really cool! it is your call on weather to chop up v1 or just do a all new beasty. i would swap in the head and legs personally i think. the problem i see there is his back legs look too big and front too small to just bash in the center of what's there. maybe you could sculpt some or dremel off some of the middle legs you pick and be ok though.

on the bendy things i was thinking you would just use those for a skeleton and sculpt over it to replicate the originals.

it sucks you are a world away as i actually have the perfect head in my ebay stuff right now. it was cut off a vinyl hollow dino from walmart that cost $1.
