I have a fairly ambitious custom (Well for me anyway) in mind but I need help finding a base figure. I want a 4.75"-5" tall well muscled figure with ARAH to 25th level of articulation. I'd prefer something without a ton of sculpted details but anything would be cool.

I've searched for a wrestling figure or something similar with no luck. They're all 6" tall and therefore too big.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

The only thing that came to mind initially was the Spiderman movie figs, though the articulation was pretty hit or miss.

Yeah, the Spideys might work as well as the FF2 figs. I think they were in a similar scale. Similar articulation.

There's also the old Toy Biz 5-in superarticulated Spidey, though none have bicep swivels. And, currently on shelves is the Marvel Legends Silver anniversary Wolverine, which is a pretty basic body (only the belt and boot flaps would need to go to make him "nude") and he clocks in at just over 5 inches. And yes, the Spidey and FF movie figures currently on shelves are pretty well articulated. If you can find the Silver Surfer from the line, and the odd proportions don't bother you, he'd be a good choice.

Wolvie is only 5"? I thought he was 6". We have a ton of those at work, that could work very nicely.

Another great Idea is the Silver Surfer figure! He doesn't look TOO bad in pictures.

The Spiderman figures were the ones I was first considering but they all have too much kibble for me. Even Spiderman and Venom have raised lines and such on their costumes.

Thanks guys, that helps a TON!

I don't have any 5in figures anymore, at least not in my current residence so I can't guarantee anything, but most ML's are 6inches tall and the Wolverine mold used for the Anniversary one is at least a head shorter than your average ML. He may be closer to 5.5 than 5, but he's definitely shorter to reflect Wolvie being a stumpy guy. But for something that's exactly 5, the Surfer is the way to go.

Edit: Scratch that. I dug out an old Iron Man line Crimson Dynamo from my parts bin and Wolverine is definitely 5 and a half.

Well I'm actually going for somebody really huge in Joe scale so I'll probably try and find the Silver Surfer. It'll mean less shaving and sculpting too.

Still, it's nice to know that Wolverine is there if I need a backup :)

Are you making a Zombie Lance Spudneck as your weapon for the current GP?

No if that were the case I could use the 12" Will Turner figure as a base. It'd be a little underscaled but would work :shifty:

SHS Thor and Venom are absolutely huge compared to Joe figures. For instance, I used the venom for my Venomous Maximus custom here

Image

and, as you can see, it towers over the other figures (including the Serpentor and Overlord, which were made from VvV Venomous Maximus parts, which is probably the largest Joe figure of the time).

What about the SHS Juggernaught? I've used him for a number of customs.

Thor is huge, and very little detail, I think I remember someone, maybe JFAK, making a rassler out of him, :)

What about colossus?

I purchased a Silver Surfer figure and am going to be using him for a base. He has the size and presence I'm looking for.

Unfortunaely he's also 5.5" tall, so I had to take .75" out of his legs to bring him down to size. But considering his proportions to begin with I think it's gonna work just fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions :)
