hm. no vaseline in the house.

after reading the website again, i see it calls for baby powder as a release agent.

which we also have none of -

i wonder if cornstarch would work -- anybody try that?

so, instead, i made the 'halves' of another two part mold -

i'll have to pick up some baby powder tomorrow ...

Talcum powder works fine. That is what I use when making a two part

I am eager to see what the finished product looks like - the process looks simple, I'd love to give it a try : D

Quick question - when you press the head/item into the mold to give it shape, does it leave any residue or discoloration on the figure? Again, I'm completely new to the concept of casting, so if that's silly to ask... my bad heh heh

Thanks : )

Tom

oops. hit the wrong submit...

anyway, the front turned out ok -- however,

//anybody need a HISS mask? :-P

i didn't let the resin/plastic set up enough before putting the pieces together -- i tried to do it via the wiki method, instead of a pour --

the little skulls -- are stupid.

the other pieces? turned out pretty good, but i can't show them, as they are for my current njc project...

all in all = pretty good results for a rookie. pretty cheap ($$) materials to play with/start with. end results that can be used. mostly.

The results look pretty good, except for the cave in at Mount Hiss Driver ;-) I'm sure that can be prevented in the future after a few tries, so I look forward to giving it a shot myself... as I'm sure I'll need more than a couple tries

Have you tried painting a casting as soon as it is able to be removed from the mold? Several sites say that this leads to the paint bonding to the resin as it finishes curing, cutting down on chipping. I tried it with a head I cast, using silver and blue. The silver seems to have bonded, but the blue did not (I can actually scratch it off easily with a fingernail). However, I applied the blue a bit later than the silver. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and had luck with it.

I've read that painting the actual mold before pouring in the resin will do this as well.
