My brother was doing some organizing out in the garage a few days ago and discovered something interesting.

Apparently my Dad had ordered some mold-making stuff and never got the chance to use it. All of the items are sealed, but probably at years four years old.

Wondering if anybody had any knowledge of these items or what you think.

Synair Synlube 521 Release Agent

Polytek PlatSil 71-20 Silicone RTV Rubber Parts A and B

Por-A-Kast Mark 2 Prepolymer B

Por-A-Kast Mark 2 Curative A

included in the box was about 100 of those small little plastic cups (I've seen them used for communion type ceremonies or as small portion desserts at fancy events)

Anybody familiar with these? Would they work for making some GIJOE casts?

Any help appreciated.

I'm not familiar with any of those brand names, so I can't give any specifics. But I do know that the various chemicals used in the whole molding/casting endeavor are somewhat reactive chemicals - that's what makes them work, in fact. So, the fact that they're so old may mean they're no longer usable as they've done auto-reacted into new forms that won't work as well, if at all, with their counterpart chemicals.

However, the only way to know for sure is the tried and true 'Just Do It' method. Find a head or similar-sized object you wouldn't mind losing and give it a try. Google the various brand names to see if you can find instructions and such.

As always, make sure you're in a well-ventilated area, working on a surface you wouldn't mind seeing get stained or crudded-up, and wear some gloves and maybe a facemask.

AV hit you with all the vital details....the Alumilite goods I've been using are quoted as having a 1 year shelf life...though that may be once opened now that I think about it...

Sounds like you're on the right track....pick some simple things to try it on 1st.

Easy and simple sounds good.

Right now there is only two things I'd like to have more off: Big Bear fur caps for some Oktober Guard WIPs and about 30x Big Brawler v1 heads (for a 'special' project).

Carn had mentioned doing some Big Brawler heads for me and some other board members, but I haven't followed up with him since I haven't been in chat.

You could try just doing the caps instead of doing the whole heads and you wouldn't have to dremel the whole heads out for the caps.

S'funny you say that, rogue. I had a severely...uh, severly...um, badly damaged Big Bear head. The face had teeth marks, but the cap was okay.

I carefully cut the cap off and tried to hollow it out, but I'm at the point of hurting myself with the x-acto.

I'd love to be able to cast both ARAH og13 waist pieces.
