Shin./Knee pads look a little un-even...and I know sculpting that quilted pattern is never easy...A simple quick fix would be to find a JvC version...and remove the padding from those lower legs (I've got a set of arms and lower legs waiting for my eventual run at Kamakura.)

Sculpting mods with green stuff is far from being my area of expertise as you've noticed ;-)

Unfortunately I didn't have a spare JvC version to play with, so this will have to do for now. As far as sculpting is involved, I have a really hard time sculpting the shapes I want with green stuff or epoxy. I think some of us here even use it to sculpt heads - I can't even imagine trying that.

The bright side is it gives me motivation as it is clearly an area where I need to improve a lot! :-)

you could also use parts that would match the forearm pads you are using

Also, you can buy sheets of styrene with 1/16" check pattern, which you can see something similar here

(i think he used a 1/8" checkered styrene)

Great suggestion Matthew, although I'm not exactly sure of what to look for as I don't know what styrene translates to here... I'll definitely check it out. Might make my life a lot easier on this dude here.

yowsa. It is expensive (for me) here, but not that high. It really depends on how many sheets. I think I got a sheet with 1/16" check for around 5. I bought a pack of 8 plain sheets (really thin sheets) for $10.

I wonder what it cost for me to send some to you?

I actually only salvaged the head and started over from scratch for the rest. I followed Matthew's advice and used styrene for the pads (thighs, forearms and shinguards) which I further sculpted then completed with some green stuff. I also sculpted over Big Brawler's torso for the kimono fold. AWESOME! I love it! Great details and paint job. Undertow works as ninja head indeed. One of the coolest customs I have seen this year. ...must be some European thing to still be into RAH customizing.

Very Cool...always good to see some RAH love... Green might be a tad bright...but I like it...the blue on the head isn't quite even...but that's about all I'd change paint wise...The tatto details are amazing. not sure what it is...but where the torso and waist meet...it looks like the torso hangs out over like an untucked shirt...but then the waist has the bottom part of the gui hanging loose...maybe another pic would clear up the confusion to my eyes. This is the part I'm having the biggest difficulty looking past. I looks less like a padded armor adn more like corn on the cob. You have to find a way to even out the lines. The cutoms I've seen that have used the JvC pads like nova suggested have always looked the cleanest.

You might want to try using somthing other than Green Stuff to hone your sculpting skills. What I've seen...Green Stuff is pretty soft and sticky at first...not sure on it's work time...but you may benefit from somthing with a bit more body...for the lower legs you could use Sculpy...you wouldn't have too much to worry about any part shrinkage or warping when you boil it...or you could even sculpt the pads as you want them, bake them...then glue them to the figure....I've been having a good run with Miliputt...it mixes up with a pretty good...clay like body and has a decent work time...and it hardens on it's own...so no worry about boiling a torso bad or over shrinking knee holes.

Meh I don't know for sure, probably no more than $3-4 for a couple of sheets I'm sure. I'll take a pic some time of what I found to show you - maybe I bought the wrong thing! Other than that, I have a few questions. First, related to styrene - is it a material you use often? I'm curious to see what other uses you can have for it, as I had never heard of it before you brought it up. Second, regarding my custom here - I'm still debating whether to rework his legs, get rid of the current shin guards and knee pads somehow and replace them with styrene. That would surely require some additional work on the paint job since removing the shinguards will alter it. Or should I just start over with new parts? I've been trying to identify what parts I could use mainly for legs as ideally they would have boots (as opposed to low-top shoes) and be plain for the rest, ie no holster, knife, pouch etc. Any suggestions?
