So after I finished Short Fuze, I knew I had to make a Zap to go with my crew of 25th style original Joes.

I used essentially the same ideas (for the harness and neck transplant) but changed up the right thigh (Zap felt more like a knife guy to me).

Here's how he turned out:

And another view:

And with the rest of the gang:

So what do you guys think?

I think it works well and is a fine addition to the team + the mustache is a crack up.

Love that head - the only thing is that the mustache looks a little too narrow. It's not quite Hitler-y, but I'd probably widen it just a tad.

The figure looks perfect - I want to go back and clean mine up now. I kinda wish I'd have made a removeable harness for my Zap & SF instead of sculpting them on -- how did you do yours?

Great stuff - you're planning on doing the whole O13, right?

Absolutely awesome. Hasbro could do their Zap and Short Fuze the exact same way and I would have no complaints at all.

Nice work.

Justin

Yeah, he has a definite Hitler-stache. But, still a nice custom.

yeah i always thought of him as having more of a pencil-thin type of stache and not quite the hitler one. but where's the bazooka from?

Great job, but I'd tweak the 'stache a bit. He really does have a Hitler vibe going.

Okay, wow...totally didn't see the Hitler thing with the original stache.

Is this better?

Thanks for pointing that out, guys.

As for the questions...

Those harnesses started out as this accessory...
http://www.yojoe.com/access/d03/203.shtml
...and the one I made for Fuze isn't quite as cool as Zap's (Zap's can actually be fastened with the jury-rigged clasps, Fuze's is Krazy Glued together). I consider Zap's the way to do it.

Essentially, cut the straps off the chute with a little extra flap of thin plastic on each. Then cut the rounded knobs off the bottom of the chute with little anchors of plastic left at the bottoms. Then drill holes in those thin flaps and insert the anchored knobs. Instant fasteners. I also dipped the whole rig in boiling water and shaped it to the torso a bit before hitting it with some cool water to lock the shape in. Then I spray painted it. I'll be doing Fuze's harness over with the improved method, so if anyone with casting ability wants that prototype (I think a cast version wouldn't need to clasp if it was a flex material), give me a holler.

That's a Microman Chirico Cuivie (SP?) accessory. I just spray painted the blue/gray parts OD.

Nope. I did these two because I haven't seen any accessories Hasbro could easily repurpose in order to knock out their own versions any time soon (probably won't stop them from doing the figures, but I should have some time). I'll be doing Clutch and Steeler next, since I'm just not sure how the big H would tackle those two. But there's no need for me to do a Grand Slam or a Wild Bill since I've already seen how great Hasbro's will look. I'll probably tweak their Rock n' Roll (like I did their Hawk) and their Breaker (before replacing my own custom with that figure whenever I find it), but honestly the stuff Hasbro has been cranking out makes me wish I weren't so impatient so I wouldn't have to customizze the characters they haven't gotten around to yet.

I love this line.

Absolutely the best Zap custom I have ever seen!
And that harness is pure genius!

Snap that's awesome. Usually whenever I see the Jango clone head used on a custom It screams clone to me but this head really works for Zap for some reason, maybe it's the stache? It really makes me want to put one together, I have all of the parts minus the extra helmet to make him too....so you should probably consider this stolen.

Steal away. I'm not selfish. In fact, if Hasbro's out there, you feel free, too. I happen to know you have all the parts to make this as well.

;)
