Evening all, I have been trying to write a universe for GI Joe. I have been struggling to decide which stories to keep and which to shrug off. My basis is to avoid death and include a world with every Joe character alive So far I have included: GI Joe - South American Joes - EXTREME - Sgt Savage - Action Force - Sigma Six COPS - Bronze Bombers Which Do you include and why? Steve |

I go pretty firmly by the Marvel run, keeping most of the characters killed in that run dead, even though I'd prefer not to sometimes (the freighter prisoners all pretty much survived in my verse though). I ignore Devil's Due, though some elements from their stories are incorporated. Extreme, Sgt. Savage, Action Force, and most of the foreign exclusive characters all exist within my universe, though in the majority of cases, it's just the characters and organizations, not the stories themselves (so AF weekly and the Extreme comic don't exist in my verse, elements of them may) The original Joe, and Adventure Team also exist (even Bullet Man and Mike Powers, but not the Invaders, at this point anyway). COPS would be a possible future, and Sigma Six is a universe of it's own and one vastly different from either the S6 cartoon or the traditional Joe mythos. I incorporate elements from various Action Man series as well. My 'verse basically starts after Marvel issue #154, the team was never disbanded. Any dios I do will have a gap between #154 and the beginning of my story, but I'm trying to avoid tying my verse to real time. The Marvel run more or less happened in real time, in that a year in the comic was a year for the characters. That's fine to a point, but it makes a lot of the Joes too old. The why basically stems from Hama's run being the work that defined my image of the characters. It was well done, and everyone's reasonably familiar with it, to the point where I think you'd have to explain the appearance of any of the characters he killed. Since I don't want to do a complete re-boot, I go with what Hama's established. As for the rest of the universes, it'd be impossible to reconcile the individual stories of AF, Extreme, Savage and so on with the Marvel run, so I just take characters and general ideas. In my verse AF has only been formed recently, and Extreme is a separate entity from G.I. Joe. Now all I need to do is actually shoot some of this. All the mental work I've put into it, be a shame not to share it a bit. |

I don't have a diostory going or anything, so I guess it doesn't matter all that much. It's not like I won't play with a RAH style Lady Jaye because DD thinks something bad happened to her. For my Joemoticon theatres I seem to use a comic based universe with some modifications (ie Duke and Hawk are idiots while Flint and PsycheOut seem to have good heads on their shoulders, Cobra Commander is largely surrounded by morons like Mindbender, whereas Raptor seems sensible). bearcatcc |

I am pretty new but in my mind the comics version, is the only one. I pretty much take what I like from here and there. By making your own connection to and from different characters (with out destroying the existing ones...whichever you choose) you can make your own dramatic stories. |

I use my own warped Joeverse....why? Because I really don't feel that I need to follow a comic or a cartoon....then again I'm seriously considering going along the same vein as Moto-Viper and doing something nonsensical with my own Dio stories. |

I hope you have plenty of aspirin on hand to keep the continuity-mgraines at bay. ![]() Good luck with trying to get all of that together. Personally, I just add Action Force/Original Red Shadows and ignore most of what hapened in Devil's Due. |

Well, I kind of chucked continuity entirely and started the Joeverse all over. The guiding principle I've been using for characterization and interrelation is what Hama wrote on those original filecards. Some of the historical details are different (the only active Joe who's a 'Nam vet is Hawk and the team as we know it was formed in '94, for instance) but I really try to keep the characters true to the way I first imagined them based on those little snippets on the back of the packaging. I'll nod to the comics and the cartoon in my stories, but I won't be beholden to them. |

No Joeverse, or Cobraverse for sure. Right now, it's either of many verses depending on the customs. I have Conan customs, Resident Evil customs(personal favorite), Lara Croft custom, and think I might just make a few DinoCrisis customs. Except for the Conan, they can all crossover, so I am limited only by my imagination. I have some fantasy figure customs, but that is for something that I could do standalone in dio and prop fashion. No Joe need apply. All of my Joes that I kept, have Battle Corps! or Ninja Force heads, so they appear far more mature than their earlier and 25th renditions, so I can tailor make my verse, and their subsequent adventures, according to a later, more open period in their lives. Nearly all my Cobra thngs have been sold or tossed. I am hedging on keeping the Dreadnoks, purely because they can still be used as a biker gang or barflies. |
