This has been a dream project since I first saw Berserk, the best cartoon that's not Futurama. My namesake on message boards has always been Immortal Zodd, 'cause I deeply admire the character/he's adorable. I've always wanted a well-articulated figure of him in scale with Joes and Star Wars figures, but I've never had the skill to undertake such a daunting task... until now.

His base figure is a Marvel Legends Icon Beast, with some obvious heavy modifications. Every piece has been retooled in some way, except for his elbows, knees, lower torso, and thighs. I bulked up the muscle in his arms and shoulders, worked his calves, resculpted the tops of his fingers, completely resculpted his head and jaw, and made a tail with an Apocalypse wire tendril. The plastic upper torso underneath the rubber fur section has been shaved and modified so that he can move his arms properly. The toughest part was the feet, because Zodd stands on hooves like a horse. I had to dismember the original feet, insert shaped metal hinges, and retool. His hooves are made of washers, for weight distribution. Plus, they make that really cool metal clinky sound when he walks :D

I consider this to be the culmination of my artistic and custom skills at this juncture in my life, so I sincerely hope you like him~!

Beyond awesome Zodd! 8-O You did some damn sweet mods on him. Metal hinges & washers for the hooves, never would've thought of that, very clever. You bring some of your customizing stuff to school with you?

WOW...most excellent work

I'm not familiar with the source character...but that looks great.

I'd picked up one of those beasts as well...but didn't like the feel of him and ended up trading him off cuz I'd have never been happy with the end results.

Thaaaaaanks~! Yeah, its been Christmas break, so I've had time to work on my dreams :D I also did up a Behelit necklace from the same show, but its really tiny, so it doesn't photograph well. As a studio arts major, I need to take the custom tools with me, but I also don't have a lot of time to work on the stuff that I love.

Yeah, Nova, the Beast figure is pretty crappy the way it comes. The arms are built oddly, the joints at the knees are too tight and the hips too loose, and the ball-jointed neck doesn't work. So the preliminary work to make it into a decent figure was pretty extensive :D The back of the head can be shaved down considerably to allow for some great neck movement, and if you carefully peel off the rubber upper torso, the plastic underside can be dremeled and cut to allow for some great arm movement. As for the hips, if you just reduce the width of Beast's crotch, most of the problems are solved. But for a fairly uninteresting character, all that work really isn't worth it :( And people say Toybiz was better than Hasbro...

Ooh, for those who aren't familiar, a reference pic:

He's able to grow wings, but because of his scale, I need to make them by scratch. Someday~

Have you tried the big Megablocks Dragons for wings? Not sure of the size, but they've got some at the TRU out Century III Mall. I'm assuming his wings are reptilian. If they're avian, the Megablocks ones'd only make for a sculpting base.

Friggin' sweet.

Just a great representation of the character.

Any plans for a 1/18th Guts for him to smack around?

That is great looking. And I just picked up a Beast figure on clearance for $4.00. Nice to know there are customizing options for him.

I completly agree. I honestly think that's one of, if not the best custom I've seen on these pages.
I'm not sure if they're big enough, but for wings you could try the TMNT bat creature wings. They're articulated at every joint and can be removed from the figure and attached to yours with any loss of movement.

Again most awesome figure.

You are my heroine.

That is AWESOME! (Love the mini-dio as well. :-D ). Oh, I could so see that behemoth in my Joeverse...but that's a bit beyond my skills/patience level. Every bit of effort you put into that really paid off and comes across very, very well--he is one powerful-looking beastie. Excellent, excellent work! :-D

Alright Zod now you need a 1:18th Guts and his big ol pig sticker to put him in his place.

Awesome custom btw and it's always cool to find another Berserk fan.

I *kinda* want to make Guts, but then I need a whole world for him to live in; it would be very silly to have him suddenly enroll in a modern military unit. So that means I'd need Griffith and Casca, and some generic Hawk soldiers, but then I'd need Femto and the Godhand, and Midland armies, and Chuder armies, but then I'd need the Kushan Empire, and why stop at only one Apostle? I'd need at *least* the Skull Knight and a couple other terrible ones to run Griffith's new kingdom, and of course I couldn't have a Black Swordsman Guts without a Puck in scale, which would be terrifically difficult... And then I'd need castles, and horses... and a giant hand made of human faces....

Now I can't tell if I really want to do this, or I don't at all :/
