I started out in the General Customizing forum looking for advice on how to paint a zombie to get a really undead feel to it. I ended up using all the tips as well as incorporating a few of my own. This custom is one of several that will be inhabiting my first ground-up dio...Umbrella lab. Hope to have pics of it up by Sat. Still have a bit more I want to do before posting it. Until then, here's what I like to call Doc Zombie.

I was hoping the outdoor shots would turn out better, but it's overcast here. Anywho...

Updates pics as of 1/4/08

Looks almost as good as if DH himself did it, which is quite nice indeed. I like the ragged edge to the labcoat, nice touch.

This is definately the best looking zombie head I have seen! I do have 2 minor issues with the custom:
1. as I said the best zombie head(the hands are great too) EVER - my problem is the rest of the clothes should be more "decayed" to match the head - at least dirtier(besides the blood). The fraying is top notch(so subtle and great), but I think some tears are in order.
2. the bullet holes- although they look realistic, their location bugs me. Anyone shooting for the heart(a logical target) would know to shoot center mass, or even if they didn't would shoot at the other side(where we "cover our heart" when we say the pledge of allegiance) - you could come up with a backstory to cover this one though
anyway, beside my nitpicks, awesome custom!

Thanks for the input, guys. As far as where the bullet holes are located, I made a boo-boo with my Dremel and that was a quick fix to hide it. As far as making the coat dirtier, do you think a dark brown wash or dark gray?

The Head looks awesome in that 2nd pic...great use of colors and different techniques.

the Fraying on the coat is inspired...I love it.

but I agree with the coat needing more grime...maybe he fell down or got knocked on his ass...maybe he's got some grass stains...more dirt needs to collect in at least one of those bullet holes

this is the type of figure where you really can't go wrong with too many paint aps.

Awesome job! The decaying flesh turned out great & I love the ripped off arm & tattered coat. Grime up that lab coat a bit & he'll be perfect. His putrid decaying flesh would ooze all kinds of slop onto his clothes. Plus, I think it was the RE book "Caliban Cove" that mentioned the T-Virus decaying the bodies at a fairly rapid rate.
