Due to the world turning upside down in 2020 I created a treasure hunt for my kids on Halloween. I wrote riddles and made a treasure map for my kids to follow on a trail of stories and candy. I told the story of Alistair P. Mattox, pirate captain of The Nightmare. The ship was swept up from seas during a storm, cast into a time warp. He was deposited in my yard and began searching for his lost ship and crew. He offloaded his treasure as he wandered through my terrible property scared by his various investigations. The kids had a great time in the dark and all of the candy they received didn't need to be inspected.

Last year things were still crazy-ish so the captain returned and the kids followed his tale through the dark woods to learn of his various encounters on the high seas. The candy brands directly related to the encounters.

Now this year my kids have been asking if Captain A.P. Mattox is returning. I've used the opportunity I have with DnD models to create the crew of The Nightmare.

Red Howser is the ship's cannoneer. The big guy can't find a shirt to fit his girth and Captain Mattox won't sacrifice his sailcloth to make him a shirt. Red Howser comes with Warheads.

Stoned Wally Jack is a drunken jester but is reliable. Messes up daily tasks on The Nightmare but is somehow victorious in battle. Comes with gummy soda bottles.

Image

Rufus, The Chap. A barbarian stowaway who earns his place as a member of the crew. Speaks in grunts and is very helpful and kind. An absolute savage in battle. Comes with Sour Patch Kids.

Image

Sir Everett Green, he's not even a real knight but he's defeated enough of them to build his own armor. He leads the raids on shore and has the respect of the whole crew.

Image

The fire witch of Holly's Wood may be a simple trickster or a genius chemist. She commands fire like no other. While most of the crew tries to keep their distance, her jovial personality wins them over. Comes with Skittles Shreikers.

Image

Sweet Veera, a giantess Warrior who has spent her life fighting savages and barbarians. Her heart has softened for The Chap. Comes with SweetTarts.

Image

Sir Oaks, reliable and ever ready. He's the captain of defense when on shore. Former queensguard, left for unknown reasons. Comes with Hersheys candybars.

Image

Happy Rock Nelson a half savage warrior, somber and morose. Answers only to Sir Oaks and no other.

Image

The Hicks family are a devoted family of siblings. Oldest brother Stevie and sister Chick raised the twins, Mick and Richard after their parents death. They survived in the wilderness for years before meeting Sir Everett Green. Reliable hunters and gatherers, the crew is never without food. Comes with animal crackers and Swedish fish.

Captain A. P. Mattox?

Was he a former Civil War ship captain?

Very nice!!

How's about a photo next to a quarter or a Joe to see how small you're painting this great detail?

These are the 75mm models, so right around the 3 inch mark. Not much smaller than GI Joe. Originally was going for the 32mm size but after the first round of prints, I decided against that.

I do want to revisit that scale though because I think it would be perfect to display on the deck of The Black Pearl, rechristened as The Nightmare of The Seas.ImageImage
