I wanted to get my experiences with this GP down on paper...er...you know. I had no idea at the get go I would be totally sucked in to the project. lots of ups and downs and thinking "this will never work"!

ok I set out to make my take on the 4 cobra la in all the art and source pics I saw online. I remember having golob and nemesis as a kid, but I think they were second hand. I liked this GP because my favorite way to create is "natural" as in just taking the art where it wants to go. it's kind of a way to say that i'm not skilled or trained. I just throw LASERBLAST at something until it sticks :rotfl:

so I gathered up my parts quickly. just about everything was in my fodder.
lord golob fitted onto a clothes hanger for strength.

DIO.....not holy diver. I got the idea to use a wooden cheese box (my wife has painted and sold them off and on as craft/soap/gift boces). I had the cardboard tubes (label machine rolls) for hoarding them at work. so vindication for being a hoarder!

I tried some silicone caulk for texture, but it wasn't ver interesting. my wife has suggested hot glue to me for years. I hate it so I never used it. well I think it was just the ticket here. plus I got used to what it does well, and to ignore all those wispy webs it leaves. paint then hot glue, then stain.

lab stuff- some didn't make the cut when I needed queen space

FAIL ALERT. I had sculpted all my larva with crayola paper clay. it's pretty awful. get it wet, like paint and it turns into a mess. try and put heatshrink over it, nope.

a queen is born, or wrangled from the stars....I had the beast covered in eggs when I got the vision.

I have taken sooo many pics. these ones here and my final gp pics are only the best of the best. i'm sure some things got missed in descriptions or not shown.

I have several items made for but this project but not used . I will add those here at some point.

thanks for looking!

I had no idea the hive had full figure sized tubes. For some reason I just assumed it was just the heads. That is an awesome idea. This was /is a massive undertaking and the vision to pull it off is Giger-esq.

Everything about this is perfect.

You outdid yourself.

It's hard to pick a favorite but the hive and larva are especially inspired.

thanks pluv! the ladies at my work thought I was insane for getting all those tubes :) if pastnastification hadn't suggested it be more organic it would probably look like a painted wasp nest. also my wife has been trying to get me to use hot glue for years, i'm glad this time I listened. also I forgot to mention the hive is set on a lazy susan. that's why it floats. I can turn it 360* for pics from any angle.

I really appreciate it DOTD. i'm so thankful that the paper clay didn't work, at the time it was almost too much. after tearing it all off I had an "idiocracy moment". I was like hot glue worked for the hive, put hot glue on them lol , there is different color paint and small gauge red wires under the hot glue. then I stained them with dark wood stain, I wasn't happy with how dark they were. the white drybrushing save them!

it's about time to tear this all down and move on. I was trying to keep it storable in the cheese box, that's not possible now. the lab does barely fit back on the hive, but then all the features and coffee can, and backdrop.....

here are the main items I made for this project, but for one reason or other didn't use.

this contraption was envisioned to store the various venom compounds used in the lab. it is a hair curler, lite brite pegs, rc wheels, clothes-line, random fodder (white ball?) , and the clear cover to a jewelers beading tool set. I loved this thing, I love this thing, but in the end it just didn't fit anywhere in my lab.
Image

this was first the home of my squid specimen, but when I added the other containers of critters I opted for them to be uniform. it is a clear container from a kids microscope stuck in a flashlight end piece (the other end I used for my operating table) briefly I had it in the lab as pictured with a piece of hair curler (left from my lab table) and a glass ball.
Image

I had originally planned for "animal sidekicks" for all my figures, and if I was happier with them I would of stuck to that plan. I really dig animal sidekicks! really they provided me with a necessary break from the projects more difficult tasks. if something was going wrong i'd get lost in these small items for awhile.

this guy is like a giant face hugger. it's a dollar tree crab with large push pin eyes, and a star wars beast tentacle tail. I got a lot of mileage off a single star wars beasty!
Image

this guy was by far the biggest time waster! intended as a staff holder for lord golob I started out just repainting him. I was calling him toad. I then added the tail a couple times. at one point he had the operating chars articulated arm as a tail. I filled in the "face" that was in the body with uv glue, and he has large push pin eyes. in this current color he looks more like bubblegum than a toad.
Image
Image
Image

this one was late in the project. I just had the idea rolling around and pieced it together. never painted or touched it again. I like it and will use it at some point. chap mei shark with ?? legs.
Image

winger the attack wasp was used, but really not pictured very well. you can see him in the group shot art pic and he was around in the hive. an unknown insect with beads and wings from a dragon tail.
Image
Image

one last art pic I had worked up.

that prior message needed to stand alone.

Beyond that, I'll say this both epic and fantastic. It's ep-tastic.

I'm not a Cobra-La fan, but you don't have to be to appreciate the dark brilliance in this project. Someone above mentioned Giger, and it's an apt comparison. Brilliant work.

If we still have a thread of the year JCA, I'd like to introduce you all to its deserving winner.

I haven't commented yet because well for one I keep coming back to it and two it's just too much awesome. Creativity is off the charts. Ingenuity is inspired. Totally outside the box thinking. Fantastic work on each and every piece.
