This will be another background item for my ALIENS universe. This "bulk hauler" was designed to be a heavy load carrying platform to ferry large machinery or material short distances and to go where larger vehicles cannot while doing so. It has a tethered remote to give the operator freedom of movement and ease of operation.

The treads and the attached chasis were from a NASA toy I picked up from Barnes & Noble. The "bucket" came from a cryopod of some sort that came with an X-Files figure made by McFarlane Toys. The tether was made out of a BBI weapon (some sort of rocket launcher), sections of colored string and bits of a thin straw.

I know the "USA" on the underside sticks out like a sore thumb. I'll be painting over that. I'm also aware that the photos suck, but I had to reduce them down pretty far so they would be uploaded to the board.

I like it! I think some heavier gauge wire would look cleaner than the bits of straw over wire, but i'm not sure if you want that? you could make a wire "bundle" with multicolor thin wires either zip-tied or taped together, that would give you a realistic and detailed strand.

That is a great idea. I recently saw a remote controlled contruction paver/roller that I thought would make for a cool PAC RAT type vehicle and this is right in line with what I was thinking.

A great idea and very clean execution.

In fact, the cleanliness may be my only crit. A few scratches in the bed and maybe some oil stains near the tracks would really put this over the top.

Thanks for the comments. I do have plans to dirty it up, rust stains, dirt/mud, etc. And as for the wires for the control, I thought the thin string would be correct at this scale. I have some "plastic lace" type stuff, but good grief having several colors of that would have made it terribly thick. Everything else I thought of seemed to go that way. I did have some thinner diameter straw I could have used, but the inside was so small I couldn't feed the string through it.

Maybe I should see if I can find some slightly thicker string and go from there.

it looks good as is. maybe just keep an eye out while taking stuff apart for thin wires. I know I've thrown out a ton of rc/battery operated car guts w/tiny wires.

Very cool idea, love the early era ARAH where they did a lot of support equipment like this.

I've got so much equipment both large and small, I should probably stop now....and I don't even have a "colony" to go with it all!

Yet.

Me too. This would fit in perfectly.

Thank you! I have since added some decals and weathered it, I have to say it looks much better now.
