A few more I cranked out this weekend.

Part of my attempt to make some 25th vehicles, this is my Cobra Patrol Boat. Something I've had sitting on the workbench for a while waiting to be put back together. Finally decided it was done today and here it is. Basically just a repainted Elite Operations boat done up in the same Cobra blue I'm using for the other Cobra vehicles. Labels by Reprolabels.com.



Next is my 25th Duke "fix". Basically I improved his crotch articulation and gave him some decent hands. Since the torso is molded in a different color than the legs I had to repaint it and the olive drab fits my more realistic Joeverse so it all came out okay.



And finally, the second member of my 25th style Ultimates, Hawkeye. Hawkeye is one of my favorite Ultimates so after I did Fury I knew I needed to make him as well. I'm not completely happy with this one though and he might get a new head (if anyone has any ideas I'm listening) but for now he's good.

I really like that Duke. What exactly did you do to the hands and forearms?

Basically I just popped off the factory hands and used some Star Wars hands, trimmed up the pegs to fit and painted all the flesh to match. Still need to tweak the fit on the wrists a bit but it works.

Maybe it is just me, but I think the color of the boat is too bright a blue.

A darker blue (like the Night Landing boat from 1985) would sell it better, IMHO.

I just can't see Cobra buying a bunch of these and and painting them. The real life base material is rubber, right? Black material like the WHALE skirt or the ARAHC NLC?

If you were going for 'Comic Book Colors' look like the JOEs brighter green uniforms from the Comic Packs, then I could see the brighter blue, but for normal Cobra I think darker is better.

I bought one of these boats for my JOEs to use and I am not happy with the shinyness of the black plastic. I hope to figure out a way to dull down the surface to give it a more real looking appearance.

My only suggetion would be to add some gray paint on every other panel along the sides. This would cut the brightness down and break up the color some. Sorry I couldn't be of any help...

DarkJedi - I see what you mean about the blue overwhelming the piece. I had intended to paint the ribs and the banner on the port side black or dark gray and never got to it. After seeing it all put back together and with figures on it the blue is a bit overwhelming. I plan on going back and detailing it a bit more by painting the ribs black to help darken it up.

As for the blue itself, I am using the same blue color for all my Cobra vehicles. I considered a darker blue but the ones I looked at were closer to black than what I wanted and I'm saving black for some other vehicles so the contrast will be that much more dramatic. If that makes any sense.

I do love this little boat though. If it didn't come with that crappy little helicopter and had the jetglider like is shown on the back of the box I'd be much more inclined to get another one.

I debated going back and editing my initial post because I thought it would be taken too harshly, so I am glad you understood my point and weren't upset. :phew:

The ribs (yeah, I couldn't think of the word) could be moded some. I could see horizontal rib sections painted different colors, like making a making a wall with different color bricks. It doesn't have to be extreme contrast between the colors though.

Is this supposed to be a night water ops boat or just a general purpose boat?

I'm wondering how a 'tetris' themed camo pattrn would look on this boat. Hmmmmmm...

This is just a basic patrol boat, the kind the blueshirts drive around Cobra Island. The kind you think of as tied off to a dock and Torpedo and Wet-Suit come up out of the water and climb aboard and plant some explosives on as a diversion for the imminent attack. That's a wordy way of saying cannon fodder on water. So no special mission or anything.

I think I'll try black on the ribs and see how that looks. It'll match the cage and railing so it shouldn't clash too badly. If I get another of these I'll definitely try a camo scheme like you suggest. That would be cool, night ops camo maybe? Hmmm... now you have me thinking... and when I get thinking my wallet screams...

I'm thinking even if you added some black along the ribbing and cage sections of the lower part it would break up that blue.

Do you see the bumps and bulges under the rope on the boat? Leave the 'flat' sections of the boat blue and then highlight all the raised edges.

Let's see if I can explain it better. Say you have a cage section and you stick a balloon inside it. When you blow up the ballon in pushes out against the cage, so it looks like the cage is keeping the whole thing together. The ballon would be the blue and the cage section would be the black.

Duke can actually be taken seriously like that, nice. Fury is cool, what parts did you use there. I also think that Hawkeye will look great if you also give him the new mask that he has in the Ultimates 3. Just skip the bullseye on his head, please

DJ - I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm planning on doing this change tonight so I'll post new pics when I get it done. I think you'll like it.

Renegade - Fury is just a 25th Flint with a modified SW Mace Windu head and hands. Plain and simple. And I haven't gotten Ultimates 3.1 yet but if it looks cool I'll consider it for sure.

That addition of the black REALLY toned down the brightness of the blue. Looks much better!

Did you add black to the figures?
