OK GUYS HERES MY 3RD TRY AT DUSTY I ALWAYS LIKED DUSTY IN THE CARTOON BUT DIDNT LIKE HIS FIGS. SO WHEN THE DESERT DUKE CAME OUT I KNEW I HAD THE PERFECT BASE TO USE FOR HIM. WELL AFTER I DID HIM I STILL WASNT HAPPY AND DIDNT KNOW WHY TILL I WATCHED THE CARTOON AGIN AND SAW DUSTY IN IT. SO I HAD TO REDO HIM TO MATCH THE CARTOON LOOK. SO HERE HE IS
THE OLD ONE

Great Job on this. Nice camo. Not sure if I like the cord on the gun, but everything else is really cool!

I like the geared up look of the cartoon Dusty. I like the color on the original one. What made you chose darker and that camo pattern? Was it based on the cartoon episode?

thanks poisonbladed im glad you dig him.

Tonphanan thanks man i went with the darker color and camo cuse of the cartoon i added the brown camo to off set the green.
i also had to go with a dif color as i moded the chest with green stuff. i dont have a color to match. but it real was the cartoon that made me go darker.
i allso just made the camo patter from what i saw on him in the cartoon and added my own touch.

I dunno...I think I like your old one better...the lighter tan really says dusty to me.

Any reason you didn't use an established dusty head in place of the duke head?

I think if you print out the lables and glue them on you'll get a better result than what you've got with the current patches...unless his patches are supposed to be written in Arabic...

Nice cammo and good choice of parts. I see this as how they could have made Dusty a while back

Did Dusty have brown splotches on his uniform in the toon? I thought his uni was tan with green splotches?

The figure itself is masterfully assembled. You are one of the best around at blending soft straps with plastic accessories. I could never pull that off in a million years. The way those straps are made just SCREAM Dusty and really make this figure. The headgear is perfect, and the painting is solid.

Two suggestions:

For the nameplates - don't give up! I like to put them on my figures where appropriate, What I do (and it still is far from perfect) is to use a needle to write the letters. I start from the center and work my way out. Even then, it takes several times.

I really admire painting the sleeve patches, but have a couple of suggestions. One, if you are really dead set on painting them (like I am) then try painting in colors that match up with the uniform similar to patches worn by the US military. For instance, with Dusty's desert uniform, paint the patch in light browns and tans. This will help the patch "blend in" with the uniform a bit better and mask the imperfections of your brush strokes. Not trying to put down your brush strokes, but unless you are a master on par with Da Vinci, your brush strokes ain't gonna be perfect. If you absolutely must have the patches in starkly contrasting colors like the red patch you have here on the tan uni, then print it off as a decal and apply it. This will really make the custom look sharp.

thanks my man for the tips and im glad you dig him. the brown camo i put in there to off set the green so he would still be a desert trooper and can keep the cartoon look. im going to fix the words as soon as i fine a fine tip brush or needle. im going to have my bro in law who is a PC geek try the decal thing.
