It's been a while since I raided the spare parts bin, mostly because I've been so caught up in customizing 25th Anniversary figures when I get the time. But inspiration struck from the oddest of sources the other day and I found myself up until all hours trying to bring the vision to life.

I had a Zandar I was pretty happy with http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_xml_single.php?t=gp&d=respect&c=zandar_spindoctor, but the way the character is likely to appear in my dioverse doesn't really synch up with the fully indoctrinated Cobra look. Plus, I knew I could do the character more justice this time out.

It all started with a Chap Mei accessory...the dagger belt off a pirate I had bought for some purpose I now can't recall. From there, the other pieces just seemed drawn to the project.

What do you guys think?

zandar is cool in a cartoony way, I do like that chap mei knife/belt set you gave him. I think the parts make a great rendition of a good character. So be proud of him I'd like to have him.

Thanks, guys.

This really represented a return to my cut-n-paste, minimal paint apps roots. In fact, the only painting that needed doing was the black for the boots and the face streaks.

I may be adding some more detail in the area of the belt buckle and the shoulder strap.

Cool to hear he's working for you guys, though.

Very cool take on him. And the fact that there's minimal painting is always a plus (from a play-ready stand point). I really dig the shoulder guard too.

Love the parts, but the head seems a little off to me. I don't know if it's the mop top (cool idea, BTW) or Gung-Ho's expression, but it just doesn't seem 100% like Zandar to me.

Still, it looks pretty cool regardless. I love your Spare Parts guys - they give me a ton of ideas for my customs.

I agree with chief - looks great, but not saying Zandar to me(I thinks it's mainly the hair too). I think he would be a great member of Zanzibar's pirate crew, though...

Anything sweet that can be made with minimal painting rocks with me.

Hey Spin, I figured out what was bugging me about the head. It wasn't so much the parts combo, but the fact that the 'mop' seems to sit a little to high on his head, giving him a "Zippy the Pinhead" vibe -- maybe if it were dropped just a hair (like bringing the headband down to just above his eyebrows), that might do it.

Also - forgot to mention how cool those accessories are - love the working holster and Chap Mei belt - they really make this one stand out.

That's a great idea on lowering the brow, Chief. I will get right on that (thanks to the photoshopped example you sent me as a blueprint) and post the update figure once that and the remaining paint apps are done.

Thanks!

Spin you amaze me with what you just throw together with spare parts. I would have never thought to use a Ghost bear head for Zandar. Guess thats why I ended up using a female head on mine LOL!

Spare parts. Feh, you make me sick. I am very impressed at your ability to put figures like this together from spare parts.

I love the Dreadnok group shot.
