Transformers: Movie

Let me preface this by saying I wasn't thrilled with the look of the robots in the Transformers movie. Then I saw it and I thought they were okay, not great but okay. Still hard as hell to know what your looking at some times. Then I saw the movie again and altough I still wasn't crazy with the designs I began to accept them as not a replacement to the versions I like but instead a different direction. I was down the shore last week and saw the redo of the Robo-vision prime (Legacy, Voyager whatever they are calling it) and decided to pick it up. The more I looked at it the more I liked it but I wanted to make it's deco more movie accurate. I also loved the amount of odds and ends this figure has in it's sculpt. A little paint does quite a bit.

Using stills from the movie really show very little since the designs are still pretty confusing and hard to focus in on one point. So instead of fighting that I decided to apply it to the way I painted the figure to give it a very movie realistic look. I took a few pictures in darker lighting to kind of showcase the look that existed in the movie as well. I also added some realism to the truck mode and also added yellow to the front of the truck to resemble how it looked in the movie as well.

JFAK075-Thanks buddy I'm glad you like it. It ended up turning out alot better then I thought it was going to. Took alot of trial and error though since painting Transformers is a relatively new thing for me.

Levantine-It definately took some time as far as having to use a different approach then I use with a GIJoe or other custom. I'm very very happy with it though.

Thanks for the comments
Dave

Yah, that totally works, Dave. I dunno what you did, but I can now see that's a robot and not a walking pile of shrapnel.

Yeah that looks really nice. Makes me wish I would have picked up the Voyager Prime I saw last week. It looks like a decent figure, but your painting makes him look real cool. But I've always liked the work you do anyway.

hey Dave, you need money?

Movie Transformers that have been repainted are selling for good money on Ebay. And they are not even as nice as this one!

AdrienVeidt- Thanks, yeah that was what really bugged me about the characters in the movie. I have a -ahem..copy of it- and it is a little bit easier to discern what is what. But the two times I saw the movie in the theaters I just could not get myself to focus on what was a head, toe, arm etc. I didn't want to make the figure too busy and still wanted it to look like the movie version but the designs themselves are busy so that is part of the fun of painting them up. I went out and bought Ironhide and Ratchet the other day and am looking forward to working on Ironhide next.

J_Man-Thank you I'm glad you've enjoyed my work in the past. I agree the Voyager Prime is a pretty nice figure even unpainted. I had debated about picking up the robo vision prime awhile back but put him back, when I saw the voyager version the other week I decided to grab him up and a few days later decided to try painting him.

bucky- :-) YES I actually do need money. I"m thinking about buying another Voyager Prime, if I can find one, and painting it up like this one. Ebay is fickle though, there is a Bumblee figure on there now going for $700, and although it is a nice customs I"ve seen other versions i"ve like go for far less. A customizer by the name of Jin seems to be racking it in lately with one of his going for $3000 the other week. I'm kind of attached to this one though so I'd rather wait and see if I can pick up another Prime instead of selling this one. Plus I painted this one up for my own collection before I even knew how much people were making on ebay. I've never seen repaints/customs go for the numbers these recent sales are going for.

Thanks again
Dave
