Jason,
Those look fantastic. Very fine work. Nothing for me to critique.
And by the way, welcome to JCs.

awesome work, the left leg on the trooper looks a little twisted and thinner in proportion to the body, I'd crop it at the wasit, did you use a model, or one of the little wood manniquins.

The only reason I nitpicked is because I could never get the folds of fabric right and Mr. K my art teacher used to make do it over and over agian

again SUPER GREAT WORK

Excellent work...way better than anything I could scratch out.

On the Trooper...he's awesome from the waist up...only thing I'd do is add a cobra sigil...I know easier said than done...but it'd complete him.
Waist down though...I'm confused...I think it's the way he's turned but I really want to see the other leg somewhere...I really can't tell what is exactly wrong...but it bothers me. That and a Cobra should have an AK-47 not an M-16/M-4.(Think Soviet, not US) Overall I get a really sad/depressed feeling from the Trooper...the setting sun, his slouch posture, pouchy stomach, and zombie-esk eyes really tell a sad story...and yet that guys is still wearing his blue shirt, putting on his mask and trudging out to terrorize the world...

Snake Eyes is awesome...a really interesting take off of the characters atributes.... At first it struck me that you made the sword too Mid-Evil...but then the rest of the armor, the cape, the pauldren all caught up with me...It's a really neat idea looking at Snake Eyes as a Knight....That'd be an amazingly excellent Idea for one of the Primo Customizer's to tacke...I may just look into having a commision made....The more I look at that SE the more I love it...How big are these? 11x14 or bigger?

I had the exact same notes jotted down. The lack of a Cobra symbol, the slouch and what looks like a pouch gut, and the M-16 over a AK.

The Snake Eyes is perfect except for one thing. The handle on the sword is way too thin. That would be an inch at its thickest point near the cross guard and maybe a half inch at its smallest point where his bottom leverage hand would be.

Hi guys, thanks!

Snake Eyes' style is a custom by my imagination. However, its based on this comic book from a few years back. Its one of the GI JOE/Transformers. It was set in an Alternate Universe WWII setting and was pretty cool looking. I only have one issue (like #3 or something) But Snake eyes was dressed with a cloak like that and using a European sword; which I thought was a very nice contrast to Stormshadow's Asian kit.

Concerning the sword handle being a bit too small, thats actually not the case. Im also a history major specializing in 15th century Germany: http://www.GothicGermany.org. I use this particular sword in a lot of illustrations, its from the Bayerliche National Museum, from a inventory catalogue dating to the 1920's. The only thing different is the quillions on the tip of the crossguard, which I flared out vertically at the tips, where the original sword has a slight curve horizontally.

Anyway, I tried to mix something like Metal Gear Solid light stealth armour into the mix :)

I am also not a fan of every male body looking like Superman LOL Which is why the cobra field agent is kinda older and skimpy. I tried to make him look like your Average joe-shmoe, clocking in 9-5. Not happy about where he works, but its a job. Thats more of a realistic terrorist from COBRA to me. They arent religious zealots, theyre just the average blue-collar (pun intended) has-been.

Anyway, the COBRA field agent was a mood thing, more than any other attempt. Well, and trying to make it look realistic. Oh, and I left off the COBRA symbol on his chest because I *was* going to do it on the computer here, but forgot ;)

Thanks for your thoughts, and feel free to browse around my site: http://www.Rogue-Artist.com, Ive got a few other things in there. I grew up in the '80s so Im a nut for it all :) GI JOE, Transformers, you name it. lol

As an artist myself, I enjoy seeing other people's work. I've been thinking about doing some new G.I.Joe pictures and posting. I don't think there's any rules that a "custom" can't be a picture around here. Sculptures, pictures, or whatever is welcome I'd assume.

Now your pictures look great. You've got great talent. But you want true critiques on your work so I'll add to what others have already said. The trooper looks good and beyond the points made about the slouch posture, the legs, and the eyes, the main thing that bothers me is his torso. He's got a torso that's a little too short. It needs to be a little longer and the upper chest muscles need some "roundness" added. With Snake Eyes, you've got the torso done well. You did lots of nice cloth detailing and the outfit's details are well done too. The only problem is again the upper chest. The chest muscle needs some tappering more like the next muscle down.

But again they are really well done and most any artist does their own style. Even the "professionals" do things that you can name as not being "perfect". Look at J. Scott Campbell, hehe. Great work on both!

Thanks Joe, Ill keep them in mind. Its so hard to find good *male* reference material!!! I can google half a billion female models in under 3 seconds. LOL But good "action-oriented" male models haven't existed since the mid 90's :(

Hey, real quick: Whats with all these "Brawler" Avatars? Is it an inside Joke I am missing?
