So, what are your favorite fantasy book series, Mr Bindy?
Probably won’t find much unexpected from me. Tolkien was formative to my youth, and so will always be my favorite. Reading The Hobbit with my youngest at bed time. Older boy read it and started Fellowship but kind of stalled out. Pretty sure I was in 5th grade when I finished the trilogy and 6th when I first saw a paperback of the Silmarillion. Read it then. Understood very little and remembered even less. Tried again as an adult and found it to be amazing.
Conan books and comics have been interspersed throughout, and even now have an anthology of the original stories on my nightstand.
Was reading Game of Thrones before it was cool to know about any of that stuff. Tv series ruined it for a lot of people but books still way better.
A hidden gem of a series - at least it was to me and I’ve never heard anyone else I know discuss it - the Pendragon Cycle, a unique style of Arthurian story by Stephen Lawhead. Links the origins of the legend back to a thriving Atlantis. In one way delightful in how long (Several books) it takes to get to the stuff you expect. Could call it drawn out, but I loved it.
There’s more. Let me sleep on it.
