Nice work!

I agree with AV. You might try Citadel Paints (Warhammer) Bolt-Gun Metal for the chains. Silver might work on the headlights.

Names:

1st: Cobra Serpent Scout (it's based on a Scout-car / Recce vehicle)
2nd: (I actually like the spitter idea) Cobra Scylox (and it's the name of a Spitting Hunting Spider)

If you wanted a more weathered look, check out this guy's HISS tanks (one is parade ground fresh, the other battleworn)

Great job !
I traded Apacolypse for the same armoured car you used in your first pic and it is under conversion for the Borovian Security Police.

I'd love to get ahold of the "weasel" as well. Tough little things, they run like on anything...vegetable oil...vodka....
Anyway very nice !

That's not a bad idea. I may have some bolt gun metal lyin' around from my old Warhammer days. I'll give it a shot. I'm also going to try silver for the headlights. Good idea :-D . Thanks for the name suggestions. I appreciate it. :-)

I love to weather things, but I'm not sure how I feel about doing it with custom vehicles like this. My goal when I'm making these is to make it look like part of the hasbro Gi Joe line. When I weather things they look cool, but they stand apart from the other toys in the line- they look like something different. Sort of not "playable" with the other Hasbro products. What does everyone else think about weathering?

Man! I can't wait to see it! I hope your planning on posting it when your done. You got off cheap with your trade (lucky!). I paid $40.00 for mine on ebay. It came with a bunch of other stuff from Chap Mei that was unusable (for customs anyway... my 3 year old son has made good use of them, so I guess it wasn't a total waste).

Yes, quite nice indeedy, both of them. The only thing I'd say needs to be fixed are the chains holding the spare tire on, they need to be silver instead of blue; and the headlights need to white.

What paint is that? I presume it's from a spraycan, yes?

As to a name for the first one, perhaps something acronymish like the COBRA 3C - Civilian Control Cruiser? Perhaps the COBRA Pacifier?

I thought about making the chains silver, but I wasn't sure. I thought it might be to shiny... too garish. I couldn't find any reference pics to see what a real vehicle of this kind would do with chains. Would they paint them to reduce glare or would they have shiny chains? I suppose I could give it a try and see what it looks like. I agree that the headlights need to be painted, but I can't decide what color. I think white would be too bright, but I can't figure out what else to do with it. Any other suggestions?

I think the chains are fine as is. If the the chain were on a green camouflaged vehicle, it would be painted olive drab, and if it were on a desert vehicle it'd be tan.

If you want it to look unpainted, maybe a dull gray?

They look great, BTW.

That was my feeling as well, which was why I painted them blue. I'm sort of on the fence about it now. I think I'm going to leave them blue. Thanks for the feedback.

I respectfully beg to differ with Stormtrooper. If you like the look, then keep them blue, but speaking from 15 years of experience as an armor crewman, chains are only ever painted by accident (ie, they're attached to something else that is being painted, and then it's usually just the ends.) There's no way to keep the paint from chipping off and also, vehicle exterior paint can cause chains to bind. The only thing I've ever used /seen used on chains is cosmoline, for rust inhibition. Metal tow cables are the same way; the clevices on the ends are painted, but the cables themselves are coated with cosmoline or creosote. Bolt gun metal or Testor's Model Master Gun Metal would work great, they'll give you a "real" look, without being too garishly shiny.

Either way, these vehicles look outstanding. Great work.
