Really cool translation of a superhero into a 25A Joe! Someone suggested a helmet rather than a mask...I think that'd be a neat way to go.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I'm digging through all my fodder bins for a suitable helmet, but haven't found one that I like enough. I did paint a Barrel Roll Spy Troops helmet blue with an "A" on it, and it looks ok, but not the look I'm after (although it makes a great "combat" helmet.)

Which one did you use on yours, IW? I'm thinking a BBI helmet with BBI googles would work, I've just got to find where I stashed all mine.

What about the comic pack Hawk helmet? Some cool goggles'd work for Cap.
Excellent custom btw, this may just be the perfect Cap recipe I've been looking for.

Well, damn. I've been sifting thru all my stuff and still couldn't find a suitable helmet. The CP Hawk head is almost as big as an ARAH head, and so the helmets that fit him best are the '82-83 ones and the 25A Breaker/Crankcase helmets. Neither of which looked very good on him.

I tried a BR helmet, but it didn't look quite right (especially if he wasn't armored anywhere else):

But as I was looking, I found another CP Hawk that I had in reserve. I was going to use the Hawk head to replace the one donated by my 25A Hawk custom, but I already used that body for my long-awaited Joe Colton custom:

Image

I've had that Obi-Wan head for months just waiting on a body. I had planned to use the TRU 3-pack Hawk as a base, but this works much better for me (especially after seeing the v2 Hawk prototype up in Canada - that thing was flawless and will become my default Hawk when it's released.)

So I took the spare Hawk head and decided to Dremel off his hair and try to turn it into a traditional Cap mask. It could use a bit more sanding, but knowing my luck, I'd go too far and gouge it up, requiring some sculpting to fix it -- screw that.

Image

I pondered long & hard (heh - "long & hard" ) on whether or not to give him the big white "A" and the head-wings. I always thought they were goofy as hell, but he just doesn't look right without them (part of the reason I just don't dig Ultimate Cap.)

Anyway, I'm calling this one done. Now I just have to figure out which parts to use for a Nick Fury custom. I'm thinking a Beachhead/Firefly base - a commando sweater looks better than spandex anyway ;)
