lol...forget to post an update! I'm pretty much done with the figure and working on the gear now...so here's a teaser:

I used RIT liquid dye. i was afraid to put the figure in a boiling pot of dye...and didn't feel like ruining my cookware...so I put some dye in a ceramic bowl and added the boiling water...Also before I put the figure in, I poured boiling water over the figure, too. I guessed if it's soft going in, it'll soak up the dye even better. I also found that you can nuke the dye...just tried it for short periods. I don't know if I'd be brave enough to nuke the powdered dye, tho.

Cool, thanks for the information, I've been getting into transformer Customs recently and this could work since I'm not crazy about melting stuff either. I'm looking forward to seeing what the figure looks like when he's done.

I know it's been awhile since my teaser post, but now Tunnel Rat's all done! He's gotten an enthusiastic thumbs up from my friend (I couldn't let you all see the results before him, right? :-D ) and so here he is:

The original 1987 figure:

And the 8 inch version:

And here's the album link if you really wanna see a couple more pictures:

I'm kinda proud of this one, maybe even more than Scarlett. Not sure why! I was like a kid in a candy store every time I discovered the right piece of gear. There were some neat challenges to this one, too. Seems when I have a TR in hand, I'm usually making him into a girl...lol! For the gun I had to sculpt the stock because there was none. I had to find a way to make a circle of the bullet strip and the bag for some reason came without a strap. Took me a while to decide whether to use cloth or sculpt the bandanas. Glad I sculpted! And I had originally thought that with all this gear, some of it would have to be permanent. Absolutely all of it is removable. ;) This custom was also pretty experimental for me because it was the first time I'd dyed a figure and also used Future Floor Finish as a sealer. A little glossier than I'd choose, BUT absolute success as far as no stickiness and I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty durable. I plan to redo some of my kiddo's customs with this finish once I fix them. ;)

Holy damn. That's a work of art in 8" scale. Definitely been nice to see this come together step by step.

The more of your 8" customs I see, the more I want to commission you for some work.
