Thought I'd share a few pics of a recent project with you. Hope you like.

Photo 1: I found a photo of Christopher Reeve as Superman for reference. It's important to note that Chris shot the first movie over two years, so he's bigger in some shots than in others. I chose to base my figure on the Superman at the end of the first movie. You can see my notes scribbled to the right.

Next photos show my initial parts layout. Later I would change the chest, but the rest of the parts are the same. The head is a modified Mego Comic Action Heroes Superman.

After assembling the basic parts I started painting. Here's Chris in his base coats.

Also, here's the chest and cape emblem decals. I always make extras, just in case, you know, things don't work out right the first time.

Here's the figure and cape with the emblems applied. Still have to do the detail painting, but it should give you an idea what he looks like at this point.

I should point out here that I eventually paint over the waterslide decals. It ensures the colors are consistent with the rest of the figure, and eliminates most of the durability issues inherant with waterslide decals.

I'll post photos of the finished product next week, after my wife opens him up. It's a Christmas present for her.

Sweet! The head, from what I can tell is a really nice likeness. My only minor critique is to maybe modify the lower legs to make him a bit taller. That's it though. Nice job so far.

he looks great, really old school Superman. Is anyone casting that head?

the only gripe i have is the lower legs like Tr101al said.

It's no great trick, really. Just cropped a photo to get the emblems, then scaled it down to the required size. Then I print it out on waterslide decal film. After the decal is sealed, it's cut out and laid down on the surface just like in a model kit. I use a decal setting solution to get it to lay down over the compound curve of the chest. The setting solution usually plays hob with the sharpness and color density of the decal, so I paint over it using model enamels. Just start with the lighter colors first. If you can trace, you can do this technique.

Sorry for the delay folks, but I just got a chance to sit down and take some finished pics.

I'm a little disappointed in the likeness, but hey, his head's only 1/2" tall!

That looks great. Can we see a close up of the face?
