Parts Used:

Head/torso: POTC3 Preview Liz Swan (torso's shoulder sockets are modified) w/Green Stuff hair and sculpted ears
Arms, legs, skirt: SW Leia in Boushh Disguise
Katana: Marauder, Inc.

Kasellen’s history is one without much foundation: her parents were adventurers, never content to settle for long in any one place, always seeking some new adventure or discovery. This eventually led them—and with them Kasellen, by then just a young girl--to the lands of Kara-Tur, where Elves such as themselves were eyed with both wonder and suspicion wherever they went. Sadly the latter proved more the case than the former and a group of paranoid villagers, suspecting them of being evil spirits summoned by a Wu-Jen who had once cursed their village, attacked them as they made camp in the hills just outside its limits. Despite a valiant fight her parents were killed—yet when the smoke cleared, there was no sign of the child.

During the fight Kasellen had been taken by two men, Korishi and his half-brother Kaishi, who saw much in the unusual child they knew was also no evil spirit. Kaishi, a thief, saw fortune; he in fact planned to sell the odd child to a daimyo known to collect odd creatures from afar, a plan his half-brother did not share. Korishi, a noble kensai who had taken to traveling with his half-brother in hopes of turning him from his thieving ways, quickly fell in love with the brave, seemingly every-curious child as if she were his own, and stole her away one night as they camped, heading deep into the wilderness of Kara-Tur to raise her.

By the time Kasellen had reached adolescence Korishi was quite old and had already taught her all he knew about the style of fighting with a single weapon; he forged for her a katana, which was then enchanted by a Wu-jen to always retain its keen edge and be unbreakable, a final gift before his death. Armed with this and the knowledge of how to fight as a Kensai, Kasellen struck out for the lands west, to a homeland and a people she barely remembered; after only a year in the settlement where she was born she left, too used to the nomadic lifestyle to change. She has since gained a name for herself as a kensai, wielding the katana Korishi-To gave her upon completing her training, and was last seen aiding in the fight against the Cult of the Eye in Neverwinter…

Construction and other notes:

Kasellen began out as an an attempt by me to create pointed Elven ears on a custom, and grew from there. For a long time she was just a head and torso, until I realized with a little modification I could get the Leia in Boushh arms fitted pretty well, and that the legs/skirt from the same figure were an ideal match. My original plan was for her to be a thief/mage, but the tiny (and soft) hands simply couldn't hold much; so I opted for the Marauder, Inc. katana, which was an ideal fit, gave her a unique background, and made her into a Kensai (one of my favorite fighter type characters.) She's a good deal smaller than most figures (around 3" or so) due to the parts I used, but I'm quite, quite happy with her. :-)

l done on the sculpting to the head and torso...It took me a second to recognize the Liz Swan parts...I even had to do a double take on the head.

I think if you're gonna do any more work on her, the first thing I'd do is pull the arms in a bit more...She's looking pretty Spytroops Lady Jaye shoulderd right now...but I think youve got room to pull them in a bit more.

I gotta say thanks to you...I picked up the Dark Elf trilogy a while back based on what you've said abou it...I throughly enjoyed it and next time I'm near a book store I'll have to seek out the Icewind Dale trilogy.

Sadly, no, not more; but not for lack of trying. I dug the holes in pretty deep but that's as far as I could get the shoulders to sit; it was a case of a tradeoff between the look, and having the arms stay in place on their own (using the pegs); due to the length of the pegs (I even trimmed them back) I couldn't get the arms to set deeper (and those shoulder joints are pretty huge to begin with, which didn't help). In the end I kind of had to cringe and bear the look, though if ever I find a proper-sized cloak, I'll probably put that over her shoulders to help hide it. This torso is a picky bugger with most any type of arms--even the ones that came with it! Once you get a set out (or try another set on it) they never seem to quite set in right...

You've got me mixed up with Cap on that--he's the authority on the Dark Elf trilogy (though series is more like it now); I've read I think a total of three books in the series over the years and that's about it. Just starting to get back into AD&D books myself, though right now my focus is on the Krynn books (Second Generation and up, since I've read pretty much all the originals).

Doc, I am really loving this. I don't have that much spare time these days (reduced to lurker status prettymuch), but stuff like this totally inspires me and makes the precious few seconds spent checking in totally worth it.

Extra points for the mention of the Wu-jen, one of my favorite under used classes.

Glad to inspire you...since you inspired me in the first place. :-D

It's been a good many years since I looked at Oriental Adventures but the Wu-jen class was one of my favorites too (always loved anything to do with magic-users, and the Wu-jen added a nice angle to the old tried-and-true European flavor ones.)

Awesome, rockage cubed. I am all about the Elves. Especially the Illithiri.

Between you and Chief, I am weakening with regard to Green Stuff and the like. My dang sculpting tools keep taunting me from the art table. "Join them" they tease.

Come on, just try a little...just a little taste...it's good stuff...smell that corn-chippity goodness...

I've definitely grown enamored of the stuff--well-worth the price and a little goes a surprisingly long way, and the end results speak for themselves.
