When I tried to figure out uses for Cutter torsos, I came up with the idea of making Rollout, a driver for the APC. That figure turned out pretty well, so I went back to the idea of making another driver for another amphibious vehicle.

I picked the 2006 Master Collector Warthog as the base vehicle. Its brown/tan color scheme, which I also used on the figure, is different enough from Cutter's blue/orange color scheme to give the figure a different appearance.

"Mudpup" was slang I had heard used in Oklahoma for some kind of creek-dwelling amphibian or reptile. It seems like a pretty good code name for an amphibious vehicle driver, too.

I made a cast of the comic pack Short Fuze head. The intent was to put it on the '97 Stars and Stripes SF body. I didn't realize how painfully short the neck was until I tried to actually use it. It really doesn't work on most of the swivel neck RAH figures, but it did fit the Cutter torso very nicely. BTW, if anyone wants a SF cast head, lemme know.

I've been busy with art jobs lately and haven't had much time to make anything for myself. So I found some time to draw/ink/color the artwork of Mudpup, too.

Nice idea, I migth *borrow* the concept. :-D I still have to get my hands on a Cutter though.

I'm not really convinced by the green touches - maybe a bit too bright to my taste. A darker shade maybe?

Your artwork is fantastic. Great job!

I agree with cahnging the green to a darker tint. That head loooks way too small for that bulked up body. Short of changing the head I think the only way to remedy it is to switch out the arms for something like Duke v.1 arms. They are slimer and won't make it as noticeable.

Amusingly Mudpuppy was also slang for the MP's on post when I was a kid.

Nice fig, awesome name choice.

When we went to Haiti in 94, the Brigade staff issued a (derogatory) callsign of Mudpuppy 6 to my Diving Detachment Commander. He immediatly had it changed to "Deep Sea 6", and my being a smart ass told him that Mudpuppy 6 was kinda cool, and for him not to get all worked up about it.
In return he designated me Mudpuppy 6, and I used it for my time as a platoon leader, and for various other monikers/nicknames.

All my tracks have been named Mudpuppy (M113, Bradley, and even one of my HMMWVs), with the exception of one, which my driver had named Cuervo Gold.

mudpuppy was slang for poo when I was a kid, :)

I like the idea of the APC having a driver, that bothered me as a kid.

Great stuff, I like the vest, but I'm curious, do you have a lot of cutter torsos?

mudpup is, if I remember right, slang for salamander. I beleive that its for the largest salamander in the world, but I am pretty sure that creature lives in Austrailla (ya I misspelled). Good solid name, and back story, even though you really didn't post one it sounds like its already worked out for you.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

The green looks a bit much, but there's a story behind it. While my brother and I were cleaning out my (dead for a decade) grandpa's basement, my brother located some old Accent brand acrylic paints that our Grandpa had used for wood projects. He realized that these were like the acrylic paints I use and made sure I took them. There weren't many colors- maybe six or seven. The last few customs I've done I worked in at least one of the colors... just to use them.

Narceron, yes, I seem to have accumulated a large number of Cutter figures for unknown reasons. I've already used up two of them and have a third one (for a Cobra patrol boat member) in the works. In my insane quest to make amphibious vehicle crew members, I've also made another figure using the chest from the '91 Cutter, too.

Pluv, good call on the arms. I originally had the figure assembled with Red Star's arms, which are even bulkier. I listed the arms as being Red Star's by mistake. They are actually somewhat slimmer arms from Hot Seat. It's just a shame that the neck on that SF head is so short. If were just 1/8" longer it would balance out the overall look, even with the still-small head. Plus, I could update the '97 SF figure like I had originally planned.

Other than the head being a little off to me, I like the design of the figure. I've got a few Cutter torsos in my parts box and have been trying to figure (pun) :) out what to do with them.

What impresses me more is the artwork of the character-that's just frickin' awesome!
