1985 was as good a year as 1984 for Cobra figures, some would argue better. Among them were the Eels, also shown here in the 1992 color set deco, although it came on an entirely different figure.

The v1's look great.
But while the Eel v2 looks awesome in v1's colors, it does not work the same in reverse.

I like them both. The blue one looks so 90's and toy like. The black and red is just the perfect balance.

One of my "joe pet peeves" is that v2 figures should be the same color scheme as v1. It's interesting to flip that around, and while I prefer black/red/gray, it's an interesting look with the v2 colors for sure. end result not my cup of tea, but I think it's a worthwhile experiment on future designs, too.

Thanks, and that is very true.

Live_Evil and/or Kwinn_82 have done some astounding takes on recoloring the more ridiculous late-in-the-line figures to match their earlier versions. They look amazing.

The V1 color set is perfect, so I can't justify putting the V2's colors on it, other than to see what it would look like.

Thanks.

The V2 almost has an X-Men feel to it, which might give them a bit of a bump.

Thanks.

I've done this a few times before. Low Light comes to mind. The later versions of his color schemes transferred fairly decently to his original mold, as far as artwork goes.

I agree that second versions should be colored like the first, especially on army builders. If you want different colors, put the original in new colors. Seems like a cost-cutting measure, too.

And then there's the part of me that wants to see every Cobra design in the classic blue/black...

That would be a great ARAH multi-figure set. Major Bludd (V1), Eels, BATS, Crimson Guards (just because), Rock Vipers, Wild Weasel (as generic pilot).
