As I've mentioned in recent previous posts, I'm just getting back into the hobby and the community. In the absence of anything new to show at the moment, I thought I'd dig out some of my old work from the early-00s and re-share them, partially to reintroduce myself and partially to see how the old work holds up!

To start, here's one I just pulled out of cold storage and, I gotta say, I'm still pretty proud of it. I think this might be the best work I ever did, as far as realizing the concept in my head and executing the various techniques. I'm particularly pleased with how the sculpting worked out on this one, seamlessly blending the existing sculpted details with new additions to create a totally unique piece.

This is so good! I’ve had a Hawk pieced together with a Mercer head but I just haven’t started on it.

You are far too kind, but thank you!

Thanks! I initially had a Mercer head on this one before I modified the Downtown head he now has.

This is such a beautiful custom. The sculpting on the jacket and head hold up very, very well (those jacket pockets, in particular, are amazing), but what really pushes this custom into legendary territory are the gloves tucked into the belt. That's the kind of detail that the ARAH line did so well, and yours exceeds that with a much higher level of detail in the sculpt. Plus, seeing a more comic-inspired Hawk is always welcome.

Thanks for catching that, sgartz! As I recall, the inspiration for the gloves was a comics panel (somewhere in the late-40s, I think), so yes, very much a comics inspired Hawk.

maybe run down what you did to him, because i thought the pockets and gloves was just arah factory details.

So, the the big changes are Downtown's new hair style and the conversion of Pathfinder's vest into a bomber jacket. For the head, I sanded away the existing hair and then sculpted a new flattop. For the torso, I sculpted the jacket collar, pockets, and added some general (no pun intended) jacket bulk. All the sculpted additions (including the sidearm and gloves tucked into the belt) were sculpted with polymer clay (Sculpey III, I believe).

I don't care whose head that was originally. In this context, it's totally Hawk.

Good eye!

I think if I were to copy this recipe and work, the only thing I would change is black belts across the chest under the jacket to signify a shoulder holster on the left side.
