Here's the concept behind Project '96:
We all know that G.I. Joe was planned to be extended into '95 with the Battle Rangers line. It was looking amazing compared to previous years, and I think would have been a pretty big success if Hasbro would have released it. It most likely would have extended into the next year. That's where Project '96 comes in: This is what I would've liked to see in wave 2 of the Battle Rangers. Basically, re-inventing classic characters in the RAH style.
Now, about the figure:
This is basically an LBC. The only thing painted is the helmet. Luckily I got a new camera as an early Christmas present, so no more crappy pics!

I really like this custom except for the rifle. I just always picture Cobra using Soviet or other Eastern Bloc weaponry. Other than that, this custom is extremely cool and looks very much like what Hasbro might have done had the line continued!

This LBC is great. The parts really work well together.

This weapon choice doesn't bother me. I always felt that Cobra would use whatever was available and worked well for the application. Since there are several manufactures that offer M-16/AR-15 styled rifles, I do not think that this is much of a stretch.
Now that I ponder this, if Cobra primarily got their weapons from M.A.R.S., in Destro's (V1) backpack was a broken down AR-15 type rifle. Was M.A.R.S. making/supplying M-16/AR-15s? Good possibility, and this Cobra trooper just may be holding one of those rifles.

Thanks everyone for the comments! Glad you all like it.
And about the rifle...I was going to use a more "Soviet style" rifle, but, since these were Scrap-Iron's arms, the thumbs bent too much when he held it and I didn't want them breaking on me. So, I went with this rifle because it fit in his hands well and I thought looked like a nice gun for a basic infantryman.

Great custom!!!
It proves how beautiful LBC's can be and I already liked him without the helmet.
