The individual now known as Mindbender was once an inergalactically renowned surgeon and medical researcher named Doctor Dorian Reid. Dr. Reid cybernetically enhanced his own brain to better catalogue all of the medical knowledge available to modern science to better care for his patients (and of course further his own success). Dr. Reid's areas of interest went beyond medicine and he used his implant to amass a wealth of information on every branch of science and technology, making him an expert on just about all of them.
Due to his massive workload and studies, Dr. Reid was left with little to no social or interpersonal skills. He was also affected by his great ego, leaving him quite alone in his life and greatly repressed.
Dr. Reid's life took the very first step on the path to becoming Mindbender when one night he attempted to download the latest information on sub-light mechanics into his brain via his cybernetic implant's connection to the holonet. This particular night was the night that two adolescent slicers with way too much time on their hands and way too little parental supervision in their lives released the "Love Virus" across the whole of the holonet, streaming massive amounts of the most vile, disgustng pornogrphy of a thousand worlds into any device with a direct connection to the holonet. The massive download shocked his system, causing Dr. Reid to pass out. While most holonet users simply turned off their devices and ran anti-virus protocols until the virus was removed from their systems, Dr. Reid received the full 29 hour download before the slicers were caught and the virus removed from the holonet.
When Dr. Reid awoke 2 days later, he was a changed man, now driven not just by his massive ego and desire to learn, but by baser urges as well. Apon returning to his practice and examining a rather attractive patient, Dr. Reid was consumed by desire for her. But Dr. Reid's formidable intellect was able to overcome his physical urges as he knew that abusing one of his patients would surely cost him his career and rather comfortable lifesyle. Instead, he knew that his vast knowledge would give him a way arond the issue, a way to satisfy his urges without risking himself openly. Using the premise of taking blood from the young woman for routine tests, he instead put her genetic material to a more sinister purpose. Among the many files in Dr. Reid's brain were the (highly illegal) complete specs and formulas from Kamino for the cloning process that created the Grand Army Of The Republic during the Clone Wars.....
Aquiring an old Spaarti cloning cylinder from an underworld connection who owed him a favor for treating his injured son no questions aked, Dr. Reid created a clone of his attractive patient for his own uses. Dr. Reid used his impressive intellect to modify the cylinder to produce a clone that was fully matured to late adolescence in only a few weeks. Impressed with not only his imrovements to the cloning technology but with the ease in which he could now relieve the tensions overrunning his mind, Dr. Reid proceeded to create clones of all of his more attractive female patients (as well as some of his support staff), building himself a personal harem.
This practice continued for a few years until one of Dr. Reid's harem expired during a particularly rough session with the doctor. Dr. Reid disposed of her body in a trash receptical in one of Coruscant's seedier districts but it was found by police. There was an uproar when the name of the deceased (a prominant business owner's trophy wife) was released to the public and she later turned up alive to dispute the news of her death. Further examination of the body revealed the slight genetic drift of a clone and an investigation into this flagrant violation of the Empire's strict anti-cloning laws was swiftly mounted.
Examination of the identity theft victim's medical records showed that the last time any genetic materal was removed from her was at Dr. Reid's office. Reid's office and home were stormed by Imperial investigators, the latter resulting in the discovery of the good doctor's private rec room and his harem of illegal, physically abused clones. Dr. Reid was not home at the time but saw the news reports about the discovery and fled to his underworld contact. He was then shuttled offworld to one of the various safehouses Black Sun operates. Dr. Reid soon found himself serving as the personal doctor to several Black Sun cells, treating their thugs for any injuries that they received doing the bidding of their crimelord masters.
Dr. Reid eventually found himself on the run again, this time from Black Sun, after the "accidental" death of two of the workers in an underworld bordello. Dr. Reid found safety in the employ of Black Sun's most feared rival, the Brotherhood Of The Serpent when Cobra learned of the brilliant doctor's flight for life. Cobra had been monitoring the story of Dr. Reid's situation since he had learned of the Spaarti cloning cylinder's sale years earlier. Cobra was just waiting for the correct moment to approach Dr. Reid about acquiring his vast intellect to further the Brotherhood's cause, and now he had him right where he wanted him.
Rechristening himself "Mindbender", Dr. Reid began his employ in the Brotherhood by cloning a now-deceased Corporate Sector Authority financial mastermind who had "refused" a generous offer to work for the Brotherhood. Mindbender built and perfected a device known as the Brainwave Scanner, originally designed by the late Doctor Wernor Venom but never successfully tested. Mindbender used the brainwave scanner to scan and copy the mental pathways of the deceased financial genius for later imprinting on the clone. Due to a miscalculation, the developing clone embryo split into 2 individuals who were both imprinted with the dead man's mental pathways, resulting in To-Max and Xa-Mot, the financial avisors to the Brotherhood.
Mindbender uses his vast knowledge to update and advance every aspect of the Brotherhood's scientific endeavours. Mindbender's brainwave scanner is also utilized for interrogation and re-education purposes for any enemies or dissenters in the ranks of the Brotherhood. Cobra is well aware of Mindbender's particular addiction, and makes sure that he is well tended for as he knows that any scientific or medical advances Mindbender provides the brotherhod far outweighs the expense of a few individuals that the galaxy would never miss anyway....
It has recently been discovered that the Brotherhood has been looting the tombs of some of the galaxy's greatest human warriors, stealing their corpses. We are not aware of the reasoning behind these thefts but believe it may have something to do with Mindbender's latest assignment, something called "Operation: Serpentor"....
