I use a program that automatically allows you to insert word bubbles for comic panel layout. I know that doesn't help you, but I'd imagine a lot of folks do the same.

Depends on what you are useing for a photoeditor, but most programs it is simple.

Type your text, Most programs have an eliptical shape tool somewhere that will allow you to fill in with any color you want. The pointer should be able to be done similarly with one of the other shape tools, Again most photoeditors have these. O know Paintshop 4 did when I had it and that is probably the most primitive program I have ever seen.

Awhile back, I found some alternatives on speech bubbles for a group dio story we are working on over at the Tri-State Viper boards. They might help you out:

1) Download GIMP for Windows for free (open source application) here. Make sure to download the additional modules and help files if needed

www.gimp.org/windows/

Then check out this Speech Bubble tutorial on wikipedia.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/The_GIMP/A ... omic_strip

2) If you have MS Word, try this. Open Word, Insert\Picture\Auto Shapes\Callouts

Hopefully, those gives you more options as well. Goo dluck and keep us updated.
