First of all, I hope everyone realizes what a big deal it is that we're getting a specific G.I. Joe-themed panel at SDCC. To my knowledge, this is the first time we've gotten a dedicated panel in front of the tens of thousands SDCC attendees in the recent history of the G.I. Joe brand. A definite testament to the renewed strength of the G.I. Joe property!

We've heard some info on the panel already, but here's an update as some minor things have changed:

Hasbro wrote:
JOIN US FOR HASBRO’S G.I. JOE PANEL
Date: Thursday, July 24, 2008
Time: 11:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Room 7AB

As Hasbro ramps up for the summer 2009 blockbuster movie release of G.I. Joe from Paramount Pictures, film producers Lorenzo Di Bonventura and Brian Goldner, also Hasbro’s CEO, will be joined by writer Stuart Beattie and creative consultant Larry Hama to discuss how they are bringing the legendary G.I. Joe vs. Cobra saga and its characters to life for fans around the world. Also, Aaron Archer (Hasbro Design), Michelino Paolino (Hasbro Design), Michael Ritchie (Hasbro Marketing), and producer Joaquim Dos Santos discuss the recently announced “G.I. Joe: Resolute,” animated online series.

To anyone going, enjoy! Bring back some good news! :)

Justin

Too bad they couldn't do something like that for, you know, the actual GI Joe FANS at the GI Joe Con... as opposed to a Comic Con.

Hasbro would have loved to have done that, but they gotta go with what Paramount wants...and understandably Paramount wants the hundreds of thousands of SDCC fans to get first crack at movie stuff rather than the few thousand Joefans who are at JoeCon.

They've got our attention already. ;)

Also, San Diego is about 2 hours from Paramount Studios in Hollywood, and I'm sure much easy to be in person at rather than Dallas, TX.

Also, SDCC brings in about 100,000 people, as opposed to the 2500 or so at the JoeCon.

Comic Con is a 'comic' convention in name only. For years it's been the place to appeal to movie, toy and comic fanbases directly.

Yep. SDCC makes far more sense in regards to the platform to discuss movie related items

Hmm. Principal photography is finished yea? SDCC is generally the place to debut 'fanboy' teaser footage of next year's big nerd movie....

Plus Comic Con gets more media coverage for the target demographic. Joe Con you get a little story on G4's Attack of the Show. Comic Con you get G4 hyping all the days of live coverage they are going to provide.

Now I just have to cross my fingers that the movie bits shown will include more Cobra than we've gotten so far. Time to start teasing us Cobra fans as to why we should have our butts parked in those theater seats on opening day.

I know SDCC is about far more than comics. I know about the media coverage. I know all these things.

That doesn't change my initial complaint.

A GI Joe movie is coming out! Why couldn't they get just ONE person from this movie to appear at... a GI Joe convention? It's only logical and respectful to long-time fans.

Hello Tim, Cobra Commander was there. You even got your picture taken with him. Duh :shifty:

There were a full 2500 at Joe Con? I would have thought it less than that.

That was a guess on my part. A generous guess. I'd figure 1,500 probably.
