I'd look at Marvel GIJOE #21 for inspiration. Destro persuses a chess set. It has shown up several times over the years. |

Joes King - Hawk Queen - Duke King’s Bishop - Flint Queen’s Bishop -Scarlett King’s Knight - Stalker Queen’s Knight - Snake-eyes King’s Rook - Lady Jaye Queen’s Rook - Shipwreck Pawns - Greenshirt Troopers Enemy King - Cobra Commander Queen - Baroness King’s Bishop - Destro Queen’s Bishop - Dr. Mindbender King’s Kinght - Storm Shadow Queen’s Knight - Zartan King’s Rook - Crimson Guard Queen’s Rook - Viper Pawns - Blueshirt Troopers I approached this using some of the main cartoon characters. I then took the chess piece names and corrolated those to how I think a royal court would operate and then applied the characters based on those roles. The Kings are the leaders, Queens are their second in command, Bishops their most trusted advisors, Knights their best warriors and Rooks their most steady and loyal followers. |

i don't play chess or even know how. after seeing that tiny Mexican vamp and the 3d printed snake armor a while back. what about tiny hisstanks or snake armor pawns, snake head cobra base as king, large cobra vehicle as queen. skyhawks and vamps, joe base as king ,and crusader as queen. |

Each piece with having matching/mirrored poses. The pawns are Cobra soldiers and Zaps (with Grunt accessories). pieces will be painted solid colors like most chess sets and similar to generic army men. The board was designed by me with help from Matthew. J_Man printed it and attached the design to a game board (maybe Trivial Pursuit). This was done in 2012. The plans go way further back than that. The toughest part, in my opinion, is nailing down the characters. Mine are all pre-85 molds. After that, things get more complicated. |

Snake eyes, Stalker, Storm Shadow, and Zartan are knights because of the way they jump over pieces and can attack the opponent asymmetrically. Rooks would be Roadblock, GungHo, Scrap Iron, and Firefly because of the use of heavy weapons. Bishops would be Duke, Flint, Destro, and Major Bludd because of their high ranks. Cobra pawns would be blue shirts. GI Joe pawns would be Grunt, Rock n Roll, Flash, Grand Slam, Breaker, Short Fuze, Zap, Steeler, and Clutch because of their uniformity. Kings would be Cobra Commander and Hawk. Queens would be Baroness and Scarlett. |
