Let me start off saying that I love the F-14, I think the Skystriker is an awesome toy, and Hasbro has been at least creative with the convention versions we've seen the last few years.

That being said, do you think Hasbro will ever "retire" the Skystriker as the primary Joe airplane any time soon, especially considering the real F-14s have been retired for years? Heck, it's even likely a kid getting the toy nowadays would have been born after the plane was retired.

I hope not as I am a Skystriker fanatic, but I think once they get all the use out of the new tooling(possibly already happened) and if they get a new cartoon or other kid based media presence after the movies are done, they could and should put out a new plane.

They have been using it a lot in the last few years, so they could give it a break, but they don't need to retire it IMO. GI Joe has rarely had realistic modern vehicles. More often than not, they have been based in sci-fi (Snowcat, Fang, HISS, General, Cobra Wolf) or obscure real world (VAMP, Mauler) or modified (AWE Striker, Wolverine). My point is that kids don't expect real world vehicles when/if they buy GI Joe. For them, why would they care if the Skystriker is based on something that existed once. It looks cool and has fun play features. That is all that matters to them.

The next time they realease it, maybe they can tool up some new parts for it and give it a makeover like they did for the POC Skyhawk.

I hope a new makeover would be including 2 seats.

I have to think after this most recent run with 2 more versions getting put out that they would be done for quite some time. Next year I expect to see re-painted Rattlers or Tomahawks.

I have that jet. The figures don't fit so well in it. I picked up a really cheap knockoff plane at Walmart that I customized/face lift whatever you want to call it. I want to say the entire playset was either 14.99 or 19.99. If I can get pics tonight I will post it.

The navy retired it over ten years ago its time for an f22 or f35

It does make sense to update it to an F-22. That's the current front line fighter. The F-35 just got its butt kicked by the F-16, so I don't really see the Joes fielding them. If they need something capable of operating from a carrier, then I could see them continuing to use the F-14, since the Supercat (F-14 upgrade) was proven to be superior to the F-18 upgrade. (AKA: the Sub-par Hornet)

The F-35 would make a pretty cool toy though if done right keeping the cockpit in relative proportion.

I got the earlier black version. I was going to make it an update of the X-19. It does show you what they can do in the scale.
