Edit: See this post for Sept.6 Update. ________________________________ This is something that has been talked about for years, but never needed, until now. I was working on a commission and needed a Clutch head, and the only one I head was yellowed. I read about using industrial peroxide, but didn't want to fool with that. Someone said OxyClean mixed with peroxide. Then someone mentioned just OxyClean. I had some, so I mixed it hot water and left it in a window sill for a week. It actually worked! I wanted to try it again, though, with something that I could compare. I had a severally sun burnt Rampart. I put one thigh half and lower leg. Kept it in a week, shaking it every few days. Here are the results.

Nice. Does it work for other base colours like Stinger Driver grey or Hooded Cobra Commander blue? |

Holy cow! I'm impressed. I'm also interested in your precise formula. How much OxyClean did you mix into the water? For that matter, if I recall, G.I. Joe parts have a tendency to float. How did you keep it in the water? Did it have any detrimental effects on the strength of the plastic? I've got any number of G.I. Joes, COPS, and a couple of Visionaries that could benefit from this. It's been a longstanding problem in the collecting world, and this is the first solution I've ever seen that really worked! |

So far I've only tried it on flesh and tan. If I can find some other part colors, I'll try those. They did float, but didn't seem to matter since I would shake up the solution every day. As for mixture, just guessed. I'll try it again with something quantifiable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oh, and it doesn't seem to affected plastic quality, but one never knows ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you for your updates, Matthew. I'd be interested in knowing how well it fares on light blue and white. I doubt it would have any adverse effect on the plastic, and clearly it doesn't have any adverse effect on paint. I ran this idea past a friend of mine who used to work in the plastics industry, and he doesn't think the solution should damage plastic. I look forward to your further progress reports. ![]() |

Nice! Might have to try this the next time I come across some discolored parts. |

I also didn't want to mess with industrial grade peroxide. I hadn't heard that Oxy Clean works. I used regular peroxide in a jar in a window and it worked. I wonder how Oxy Clean compares to just regular Peroxide. |

By regular peroxide, do you mean hydrogen peroxide? Or is there another product out there I should be looking for? |

Just Hydrogen Peroxide from Wal-mart. |

On the Clutch head, some paint came off, so I was afraid to do a Stinger Driver. If this batch works, I'll try some more important parts ![]() |

I wonder how the imprinted emblems like Cobra logos will fare with this? |

1 cup of water to 1 tablespoon of OxyClean. Set out in the sun for roughly a week. I would shake up the solution daily. Before Attachment: After Attachment: Still some yellowing, but definitely see improvement. Seems like Long Range's hair has changed color, but it looks to be the only paint affected. Next I will try OxyClean and cheap-o Peroxide. |
