I had never paid much attention to the Skylanders, so I had no idea what they were. My wife and her sister are Disney nuts and complete geeks, so they love the Disney Infinity concept and can't wait until the girls (we had one 5 weeks ago, my niece is due next week) so they can play this game or something like it with them. They showed this stuff to me at the mall yesterday.
It made me realize just how far behind Hasbro is lagging in the toy department. They are completely reactionary, just tossing their brands in whatever direction the wind has often already blown and then half-ass the toss to boot.
Hasbro has been asleep at the wheel when it comes to interactive play. First Skylander and now Disney Infinity... this is something kids can get into nowadays.
So... here is what I would do... a Hasbro Infinity type of game. You buy an action figure, vehicle or playset that unlocks video game content. Obviously, there can be very lore friendly story driven games where you plug in your toy's disk and raid the Red Ninja training ground with Snake Eyes, drive a HISS tank through an urban warzone to rescue Destro and the Baroness, or even duel a Sith lord with Obi-Wan and use Jetfire to dogfight with the Decepticon jets. But here's where it would get really amazing... the toy box sandbox mode. Completely customizable, you can set up the Terror Drome and man it with Stormtroopers, have Han Solo flirt with Lady Jaye and go on adventures with Shipwreck behind the wheel of Jazz or Hot Rod.
