So, this occurrd to me while looking over my latest purchase, Kwinn. I bought him from Tuesday Morning, where he and Roadblock were the only figures left. Then I realized that every time I'd seen the Ultimate Wave, I'd seen Kwinn peg warming long after the others were gone, and even I never picked him up until he was at TM. This was a figure we as fans BEGGED for. At first just in the abstract (we wanted a figure of Kwinn) then specifically this figure when we saw it in the concept case. Remember all the wailing and moaning when we thought it would be an SDCC exclusive, or cancelled? Or how every time we saw a wave without him, we bemoaned the missed opportunity to include him in favor of, say, yet another Duke, CC, SS or SE? But guess what Ultimate wave figures I almost never see on pegs? Duke, CC, SS and SE. We can't even say, "well...we had high hopes, but...." We knew the exact figure we were going to get, begged them to release it, then said a collective, "meh."

My point is...are we full of crap? Do we even know what we want?

I think we know what we want, but this just points out why Hasbro keeps making Duke, SS, SE, and Cobra Commander. There are not enough of us who want the less known figures to buy them all, while the main characters are bought by the more numerous type of customer, mainly the kids or the parents buying for the kids who want the known characters.

In a lot of cases this will happen. I can't say it's due to people being full of it or what. There were many "fan choice" figures in the Star Wars line that peg warmed, but others that didn't.

Kwinn probably was just a hard core fan choice figure. No connection for kids and no cool factor either for them. So while the other figures had duel selling power, I think that's what happened with Kwinn. However, he is not in any store, so I guess he's doing ok.

I wanna say a lot of Kwinn's "not-selling" has to do with execution. Let's face it most of us know Kwinn as this ginormous Eskimo dude with an imposing posture and a face you wouldn't want to mess with.

What the toy gave us was a sad-looking, average-sized dude.
What kid sees Cobra Commander, Snake-Eyes, Roadblock and Kwinn and goes "Mommy! Mommy! I want the sad-looking guy in tan shorts!"?

I wasn't interested in kwinn in the first place but im a toy collector, I mostly just want nice updates of the figures I liked as a kid, not the comics or cartoons so much but the figures that I played with. also if I think a figure is cool looking I will get it even if I have no idea who it is. well nobody, NOBODY looks cool in those safari cargo short things. no man ever at any time looks good or cool in shorts of any kind.

Wait, huh? I've never even seen him in the wild. Only place I saw this wave, and only half of it total, was at Rite Aids for $15 each. I'm sure if those Kwinns showed up here, they'd be gone real fast.

Kwinn's problem is that Hasbro can't/doesn't do pre-orders to the end-user. They use all this market research data that is *always* incomplete or otherwise inaccurate. By selling their product to WM, they have to produce each fig in ratios that WM wants, not in the numbers to satisfy the demand.

Kwinn suffers also in that he's not an army-builder like the others in his wave can become, and he has little customs re-use.

The fans probably bought their figures of BBTS because Joes are hard to find in the wild.
Then weeks / months later that wave shows up in stores for the general public. A dad might remember having a Snake Eyes or Crimson Guard as a kid, so might be tempted to get them for his kid, but Kwinn was just a character from the comic. He wasn't even in the cartoon. Nobody remembers Kwinn except for the collectors.

Ninjas, soldiers and a random safari dude in shorts. So it's no big surprise that he might be the peg warmer or the bunch.

The fat Jabba dancer was a fan choice as well and she kept the pegs warm for a very long time.
No matter how many times the SW figures got on 25% sale, BOGO and other special clearance events, she stayed on the pegs like a champ.
I'm pretty sure my local TRU ended up throwing them away or something.

Does this mean that Hasbro should stop listening to the fans? I don't think so, but such characters should be included in bigger sets of three packs, because sometimes they can't move on their own.

I call BS. Where are you finding any Joes on pegs?

And Walmart had no part in anything to do with this wave. They stopped carrying Joes long before it was solicited.

And who said Kwinn has limited customs potential? Are you NUUUUUTS?! If I ever saw this wave in an actual retail store, I'd buy every one I could find.

No Joes of any kind are left anywhere around here, and kwinn never peg warmed. If anything it was that useless Budo that clogged up pegs around here. I could care less about Kwinn as a character, but bought 2 to use as fodder.

What do you mean "we"? I never saw any of Kwinn's wave anywhere. Rarely even saw Lady Jaye's wave. There's some modern collector attitude that if you see figures more than once they are "peg warming". If only you remembered the 80's, when unwanted characters from long dead toy lines sat around for years.

I mean you should definitely take it personally and get offended. And I remeber the 80's quite well. I also remeber that this isn't the 80's, when stores had entire Joe sections with several cases out at once. Now they get a case out at a time, and cycle stock out a ton faster. So the time required to call something a peg warmer is a lot less.

I concur on calling BS on peg warming Joes, or on seeing Joes on the pegs. Neither Target nor Wal Mart carry Joes anymore around here, and I've only seen Joes at TRU once, and I witnessed a fellow collector clearing out the figures. They usually only have a couple of Tomahawks, and a Retalliation HISS.
