Post subject:  Customizing/Collecting Goals for 2014

TR101AL brought up this topic last year on the JC podcast and I liked it so much I thought I'd bring it up on the forum as well. What are your Customizing/Collecting goals for 2014. Be warned we'll be talking about some of the responses when we record our next episode.

Incidentally, I finished 1 out of 2 of my goals from last year.

1) Obtain the figures I have been unable to acquire as of yet.
2) Obtain older figures to complete my collection.
3) Obtain fodder figures for projects.
4) Obtain vehicle fodder for custom ideas.
5) Help others get figures they are looking for.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

Do we have a 2013 thread about it as well? I'd like to see if I achieved anything lol. I did a search and found 2012 and back, but not last year.

Quit buying new things.
Downsize.
Clean my toy room.
Do a few custom projects here and there to keep my skills. Make an effort on every one of them.

1) Stop buying figures
2) Incorporate more drybrushing into my figure customs
3) Figure out washes
4) Did I mention stop buying figures? I think that will be my New Year's resolution. I just went nuts again with all these black Friday cyber sales. I just can't say no to $5 figures.
5) I have 2 rather large vehicle customs planned. I don't want to give them away because they may fail, but if they work, they should be pretty cool.

1) Organize my workshop.
2) Add to my prop library for what is looking like a big dio story year
3) Sell off the stuff I know I won't use
4) Submit more completed figures to the gallery
5) focus so as to not waste away hobby time staring at bad tv shows on Netflix
6) finish one big project I've started but stagnated on
7) put some legs under another project I've been delaying starting.
8) give more time to writing, reflecting and preparing. Customizing happens even without pieces of plastic in your hand.

- Slow down the purchase train.

- Limit said purchases to what I'll actually use either for photography, small dio making and tabletop gaming.

- Go through what I already have and make a box for my nephew and other kids I know. I have Rubbermaid bins filled with random figures that probably won't see any adventures as long as they're stuck with me :-P

- Rearrange my home office / toy room once they over stock has found a new home.

My collecting goals for next year is dramatically downsizing my collection.

1. reduce my Star Wars collection to 1 small rubbermaid tote
2. display a small collection of How Wheels cars and get rid of everything that can't be displayed
3. weed out army builders; general reduction of Cobra forces
4. liquidate 25th ME joe figs
5. sell off doubles and misc accessories
6. weed out redundant Marvel Universe figs; I really don't need 15 Iron-Man's and Woverines

And lastly, take the money I generate from this sell-off and put it towards getting my prints properly matted and framed :-)

1) Snag a handful of figs from the last few waves of Marvel Universe.
2) Stop buying toys altogether (save for any fodder/dio pieces I may need for projects.)
3) Reduce the footprint of my toy display area so I can dedicate larger portions of my "Man Cave" to other interests.
4) Sell off the majority of my SW collection.

1) Getting Semi-gloss clear coat.
2) Get a light box for better pictures.
3) Submitting more customs to the JC.
4) Getting too much weapons from Marauder Inc.
5) Equip better my customs.
6) Getting a cast of the Natalie Poole torso.
7) Getting the ARAH pieces I need to start/finish my customs, specially torsos from Armadillo and Croc Master. Duke v6 head and torso.
8) Reviewing what I can get rid off.

As far as collection:
I would like to get Blizzard, Light-foot, Super Trooper, Rock-Viper, Stretcher, Subzero, Spearhead, Big Ben v1, Monstro Viper, Desert Scorpion, and someday this one: http://www.yojoe.com/action/94/fighterpilot.shtml

I want to get cracking on getting my old vehicles and playsets from childhood cleaned up and refurbished. I also want to make more of an effort to get more vintage vehicles, even if they're just shells to complete later.

1. Cut down on buying new stuff, fortunately Hasbro has been really helpful with this.
2. Continue to set up my basement and garage as the warehouse for my burgeoning online toy/comic store.
3. Sell the stuff I don't need/want (See item 2).
4. Do more than a handful of customs, both 12" and 3 3/4"

Thread from 2011 - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=27124

Thread from 2012 - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=31912

I haven't posted in one of these since 2010 :-/

Not that we've got the house it's time for me to finally get things on display. I figure most of my money for 2014 will go towards shelves, display cases, etc. I'll snap a picture tonight to show what type of mess it's currently in.

Post subject:  Re: Customizing/Collecting Goals for 2014

Looking back at 2010, I get what I was saying form a collection stand point, but with less and less time to dedicate to customizing, I have to have some kind of plan even if I never follow it. That "customizing ADD" kicks in real quick and before I know it I've started 10 new projects instead of finishing one old one.

Goals?! I don't need no stinkin' goals! :-D If I start taking this hobby serious enough that I need to start making goals to get enjoyment out of it, I've gone too far. Everything I want, everything I want to do, it is all in no particular order. I'll get to it when I get to it.

2011, I had no plans, which makes sense for me at that time.

2012, LIAR! Stinking rat liar! I did neither of these things that year.

Collecting: Fall in love with my collection again. Thin it down to stuff I really want now. This year, nothing comes in unless something goes out.

Customizing: Finish more of my projects.

2013, I wanted to create a tutorial in the wiki for one of DarkWynter's techniques for creating 1/18 scale trees (success) and do a full figure using TR1ER's digital camo technique (fail).
